Writing Fiction I - Visiting Writer May-lee Chai

Writing Fiction I is an introductory course in fiction writing. We will
begin by reading short stories and discussing their craft, and then move to a
workshop format where the discussion focuses on student writing.

Submission guidelines:
Students interested in taking Fiction 1 should submit a short story or part of a longer work of fiction that they consider to be their best work. No prior workshop experience is required for Fiction I. Submissions should be less than 15 pages long, double spaced, stapled, and the students' contact information should be on the first page, including full name, address, home/summer email address and school email address.

Submissions should be sent to: FICTION 1 Submissions
in c/o Creative Writing Program Office, AC #2235
       Amherst College
       PO Box 5000
       Amherst, MA 01002

The deadline is two weeks before the start of fall semester classes: August 22, 2005.

The teacher will try to email the students in advance of Monday, Sept. 5 (Labor Day) that they have been admitted, thus students should check their email. A sheet of the names of the students accepted into Fiction 1 will also be posted outside the Creative Writing Office (Webster 213) on the first day of classes.

Internet submissions will not be read. Submissions will not be returned to the students so please keep a copy of your work.
