U.S. Naval Hospital- Built in 1909 as part of the Naval Base at Newport, R.I on Goat and Coaster's Harbor Islands.I was delivered by LTJG. William Brown, US Naval Reserve on October 12, 1951.The Naval Base's beginnings go back to 1639. The Naval Base is now an EPA Superfund Site.

Rice Heights Public Housing Project- A sorry experiment in public housing that was finally demolished in 1999. I grew up here and managed to fall in love with natural history..

Hartford Public High School- Second oldest (1638) public high school in America and located in the "most stressful city in America". Renovated in 1966, I received a first rate science education and became the first member of my family to graduate from high school and the first to go on to college.

Case Western Reserve University- B.A. as an Undergraduate Scholar in 1973 where "Highly motivated students are allowed to design individual programs of study, supervised by a faculty committee." My program was "Natural History Museum Administration". The first three years of coursework were split evenly between the natural sciences and literature. My two most influential Profs. were the late great Shakespearean scholar Prof. Robert Ornstein, and Prof. Karl Flessa, invertebrate paleontologist.

Farm and Wilderness Camps- A life changing wonderous place. This is where I met my wife, Sally Waisbrot. I was a Nature Counselor 1971-73

Cleveland Museum of Natural History- I interned here for my senior year, full-time 1972-73, working with and meeting such notables as Dr. David Dunkle, discoverer of the Dunkleosteous and Dr. Donald Johanson, discoverer of Lucy.

Science Centers of Connecticut- I was Curator of Natural History 1974-1976. This museum began its life as the Children's Museum of Hartford.

Pember Museum of Natural History- I was Curator 1976-1979.

University of Massachusetts- I was a terrible Ed.D. candidate from 1979-1981, disinterested and distracted. I did enjoy one class in Institutional Research in which I did a paper on the Pratt Museum at Amherst College!

Sanderson Academy- I was Chair of the Building Committee for this new 5.2 million dollar K-6 public school.

Lesley University, M.Ed. 1997- I needed an Master's in Education so that I could work in public schools....a poor excuse, I know.

Lenox Public Schools-1997-1999 It took me two and half years as Technology Specialist to realize it was wrong for me.

NWS Cooperative Observers Program- I have been a Coop Weather Observer since 1995. You may see my station's data. I have also written a monthly column on the weather for ten years in the Ashfield News.

I write two monthly newspaper columns. "The Weather Observer" is for my town newspaper, The Ashfield News. "The Lookout" is for the Daily Hampshire Gazette and is about weather, the night sky and any other ramblings on the natural world.

I hold forth before a group at Amherst College's Family Weekend down in the Track Room.
