Subject: Vegetarian Group Update

Hey everyone,

We've been working to build a foundation to get this organization started lately, and thought we should fill you in on what's been going on.

Rebecca, Erica and I submitted a proposed budget to the SFC for the fall semester. We haven't heard back from them yet, but when we do we'll let you know. We requested funds for educational resources (pamphlets, books, flyers, table tents, etc. to use at informational tables outside of Valentine, and to spread information around the campus), for speakers/workshop events, for group dinners (presumably vegan dinners to be cooked by us, open to the campus- perhaps through a sign-up of 30 or so interested students), for the production of a small guide to vegetarian eating in the 5-college area, and for miscellaneous expenses (like vegan brownies at group meetings!).

We've also had a lot of success making contacts in the 5-college community. We've been in contact with the Smith Animal Rights Coalition, who had a table at earth day and who are trying to organize a 5-college Vegan Pot Luck dinner with us, and with a similar group at UMass.

We are planning to have our first meeting on Tuesday, May 6, over dinner, in the Terrace Room (downstairs in Valentine), at 5:30pm. It's purpose will be for us to get to know each other, and to discuss ideas for next semester. This day and time is very preliminary, as we haven't even reserved the room yet, so if anyone has any serious conflicts with this let us know. We'll keep you informed. It would be great if almost everyone could come. We're planning to put around table tents to gather more interest for the meeting.

Please be in touch with any ideas or questions you might have!

Take care,

br
