We Had Our First Meeting of the Year
On Tuesday, September 23, VEGGIE had its first official meeting of the Fall '97 semester in the McCaffrey Room of the Campus Center. We had a great turnout of about 25 people, who stayed despite B.R.'s slight baking mishap (we repeat, it was not that the brownies were bad because they were vegan, but we think that it may instead have had something to do with B.R.'s leaving them in the oven 3 times longer than he was supposed to :) ) Click here to read the e-mail sent out to our group summing up what went on at the meeting.
In other news, we've received our fall 1997 budget from the SFC, and we have a fair amount of money to work on the many projects we plan to undertake. We've already run a table at the Student Activities Fair, where we got around a hundred names of people who are interested in the club. We gave out vegan banana bread, vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and (mostly) organic fruit, as well as a lot of pamphlets about the club. It was a great success!
Vegan Newt!
The non-profit student run coffee house, the Hungry Newt, is now open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights from 9pm-midnight, and for Saturday brunch from 11am-2pm. B.R. bakes most Wednesdays, so Wednesday evenings there should definitely be vegan items available! We hope that we can raise enough interest and baking support so that every night the Newt is open there will be at least one vegan item available. If you're interested in helping out, let us and the Newt know! Visit the Newt's website for directions and more information.
