Printing in the Library

AC STUDENTS, FACULTY & STAFF -- Printing From Library Computers
- Select <print> in the application or database you're using, if it's available. For example, use the print function, from Internet Explorer's 'File' menu.
- Select a printer, either 'A Level Laser Printers' (if you're sending the print job from somewhere in the Robert Frost Library), Music Library Laser Printer (large format for music scores) or 'scilib_queue' (if you're in the Keefe Science Library).
- Enter your Amherst username and password.
- Click on the <OK> button.
- Pick up your printouts at the selected printer.
- Double-sided printing is the default.
- Printing costs are charged to users' College accounts. (Faculty and staff should check with their Departments about any charges before issuing print commands.)
AC STUDENTS -- Remote Printing From Your Dorm (or your Laptop) to Library Printers
To configure public printing in Windows XP and Vista, simply follow these instructions . Remember that you will be charged for jobs sent to public printers, the current price list can be found on the main printing page.
EVERYONE ELSE
- Prints are 10¢ per page with pre-paid copy card only.
- Select <print> in the database you're using, if it's available, or use the browser's print function, from the 'File' menu.
- Choose 'Frost Library Public, then click <OK> or <Print> in the printer dialog box.
- In the print job monitoring box, create a "Job Name" and click on the <Print Document> button.
- Pick up your printouts at the public printer on the Main Floor of the Frost Library.
- Insert your pre-paid copy card in the card reader next to the printer.
- Click on and highlight the line containing your document.
- Click <Print Selected Jobs>.
- Don't forget to retrieve your prints and your copy card.
DOUBLE-SIDED PRINTING IS NOW THE DEFAULT ON THE LASER PRINTERS (08/28/07)
We encourage everyone to use double-sided printing where possible in order to save paper, but make sure to check with your professor before submitting double-sided work.
To change to single-sided printing:
- In the File menu, click Print…
- In the Print dialog box, click Properties.
- Go to the Layout tab.
- Under Print on Both Sides, click None.

REFUNDS
Refunds are issued only when equipment fails to print properly, not when documents don't look as expected.
- Amherst students/faculty/staff should request a refund by completing a refund request form at the service desk of Frost A Level, the Music Library, or the Science Library.
- Everyone else should request a refund at either the Frost Reference or Circulation desks
