Getting material not in the Library:
Amherst College Library is committed to supporting the information needs of AC students, faculty and staff. We will borrow or buy books, articles, microforms, and videos from other libraries in the Five Colleges or beyond. There is no charge to you.
- Books that Amherst doesn't own, but that are available in another library in the Five Colleges, may be requested through the Five College Catalog. Once you get the book on the screen and see that it isn't at Amherst, you have an option that says "Request Item". You'll need to enter your barcode (twice!) to request the book. It will be delivered to the Frost Library for you in 2-3 days.
- Videos in the other Five Colleges can be requested through the Video Loan Request Form Or you can borrow them for 3 days directly from other Five College libraries in person.
- Articles that are in journals at the other Five College Libraries (or outside the Valley), and books not held by the Five Colleges may be requested through Interlibrary Loan. There is no charge to you.
- Books stored off-site in the Five College Depository can be used there or brought to Amherst for you to use here. Most books can just be requested through the library catalog... if not, you can send an FCLD Book Request. You may also request a journal article, and it will be scanned or copied and sent to you if you submit an FCLD Article Request.
- Amherst College books and journals stored off-site in the Amherst College Depository can be requested and will be returned to Amherst for you within 2 days. The articles within journals maybe scanned or copied, so fill out the information on the article you want for speedy service.
- We also buy material to support your research, and to develop the collection. Requests for purchase can be sent to the Acquisitions Department.
