Amherst
College Weather Station
Systematic recording of "meteorological" data was first begun at Amherst College in 1835 by Ebenezer Strong Snell (right). He was a graduate of the college's first class and later its Professor of Mathematics and Natural Philosophy. The present weather station was set up by Philip T. Ives and has been in operation since 1948. Since Prof. Ives' retirement, Virginia White of the Biology Department continues to record the data by hand every day.
