Jeffs Tripped Up at Keene State, 8-3 FROM A KEENE STATE COLLEGE RELEASE Amherst jumped on top in the first-half of the second inning as junior outfielder Tom Scott (Randolph, NJ) slammed a three-run shot, his first homer of the season, for the early lead. The Owls answered, scoring in the next four innings to run away with the game. Amherst rookie hurler Ben Goldfarb (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY) took the loss, giving up five runs on five hits and 2 walks in three innings of work, and dropping to 1-2 on the season. Fellow first-year Ryan Platzbecker (Westlake, OH) and senior tri-captain Rob Anderson (Winnetka, IL) came on in relief as Platzbecker went four innings, surrendering one earned run on four hits, while Anderson tossed an inning of scoreless ball. Scott was 2-for-4 on the day, while rookies Angus Schaller (Leucadia, CA) and Brendan Powers (Walpole, MA) joined him in the mulit-hit column with two apiece. Amherst returns to action Friday at 3:30 p.m. at NESCAC West and Little Three archrival Williams College. |
