Jeffs Move to 2-0 with 5-1 Victory at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, MA - The Amherst College field hockey team improved to 2-0
with a 5-1 victory at Smith College on Tuesday night. Junior midfielder Rachel
Carr-Harris (Pleasantville, NY) tallied
her first goal and first assist of the season for the Jeffs, while senior
tri-captain Molly
Gilbert (Penn Valley, PA) dished out a pair of assists.
Smith drew first blood as junior Linnea Michaels found the cage just
1:25 into play. Amherst responded quickly with an unassisted score from
sophomore Christa Porcaro (Pelham, NY) at the 29-minute
mark, and Carr-Harris gave the Jeffs the lead for good, feeding senior
tri-captain Erin O'Hare (Bowdoinham, ME) for the score
with just under 15 minutes in the opening frame.
Amherst added a trio of insurance goals after the break as Gilbert dealt consecutive assists to Carr-Harris and senior tri-captain Katherine Skrivan (St. Louis, MO), and sophomore Carolyn Shea (Summit, NJ) notched her first score of the season.
Amherst sophomore Kathleen Boucher (Washington, DC) posted a pair of saves, while senior Megan Maguire piled up 17 saves in a losing effort for Smith, which fell to 2-1 with the loss.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at 11 a.m. at NESCAC rival Bates College.
