Amherst's NeSmith Repeats as NESCAC Rookie of the Week
October 31, 2005
AMHERST, MA - Amherst College first-year tailback Eric NeSmith (Newark,
NJ/Hill School) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) Football Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second time in three
weeks after pacing the Jeff rushing attack with 92 yards and a touchdown
on 13 carries in a 37-6 win at Tufts University on Saturday.
NeSmith has led Amherst in rushing for three straight weeks, racking
up season totals of 313 yards and three touchdowns on just 46 touches,
good for a conference-best 6.8 yards per carry average. He has found
the end zone in three consecutive games as well and ranks seventh in
the NESCAC in yards per game (62.6). His breakaway speed has made him
an immediate threat in the conference as he's broken touchdown runs of
78- and 48-yards in his last two outings. He set a career-high against
Wesleyan, carrying the ball 11 times for 122 yards.
Amherst returns to action Saturday at 12:30 p.m., hosting undefeated
Trinity College.
