Amherst Indoor Track and Field Take Six Wins At Wesleyan Invitational January 14, 2006 Wilson also found victory in the 800-meter run with her 2:28.44 finish, while her teammates also turned out excellent performances as first years Carly Levenson (Richmond, VA) and Kate Silverman (Upper Montclair, NJ) and sophomore Lauren Benson (Hamilton, NJ) took third, fifth, and sixth places. Senior co-captain Ginger Polich’s (Ironwood, MI) 3:06.42 performance in the 1,000-meter run earned her a first-place spot, while Anderson and rookie Tovah Ackerman (Eden Prairie, MN) grabbed third and fourth. Sophomore Katie Moravec (Chico, CA) snatched the fourth victory for the women in the 3,000-meter run while first-year Liz Dalton (Wayne, PA) finished second. McDermott-Murphy and Walton raced to second and third place, respectively, in the 600-meter run, while fellow rookie Jenny Mancino (New York, NY) took home second in the high jump. On the men’s side, sophomore Mike Harbus (New York, NY) raced to an 8:58.82 first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, leading teammates junior Rich Wilson (Columbus, OH), first-year Peter Foote (Shelburne, VT) and junior Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) who seized sixth, seventh and 11th for the Jeffs. The Amherst 4x400-meter relay team of senior tri-captain Tim Porter (Newton, MA), junior Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) and sophomores Basile Beaty (Belmont, MA) and Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) crossed the tape at 3:32.87, good for the final Amherst victory of the day. Meanwhile, Beatty also took third in the 800-meter run and Hayman placed fourth in the 600-meter run. Rookie Nick Lynch (Kingston, Jamaica) grabbed second place in the long jump and third in the triple jump, while senior tri-captain Nick Canevari (Warwick, NY) took home second-place plaudits in the shot put. The Jeffs return to action at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 21 at 11 a.m. |
