Amherst's Downs Named NESCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

AMHERST, MA - Amherst College sophomore midfielder Taylor Downs (Hastings-on-Hudson, NY/Hastings HS) was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Monday after scoring key goals in each of the Jeffs' season-opening wins over the weekend.

Downs notched the game-winner in Saturday's 1-0 victory over NESCAC foe Trinity College and then punched in the game-tying score in a 2-1 non-conference win at Roger Williams University on Sunday. As a rookie, Downs started all 15 games for the Jeffs, registering a goal and three assists.

Amherst (2-0/1-0 NESCAC) returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m. at NESCAC rival Bates College.
