Amherst Men's And Women's Squash Improve to 2-1 With Wins At Tufts December 7, 2005 Sophomore Mark Rapisarda (Brooklyn, NY) and junior Stu Landesberg (Katonah, NY) both bested their opponents in straights sets to lead the Jeffs. Rookie Gautam Kalani (Mumbai, India) and sophomore Andrew Slutsky (Providence, RI) also added wins for Amherst, while first-year Jerome Giovinazzo (Staten Island, NY) fought the toughest match of the evening, holding out for individual victory, and the team win, in five sets (9-10, 9-4, 7-9, 9-1, 9-6). For the women, senior co-captains Lauren Coape-Arnold (Scarsdale, NY) and Scotty Hanley (Sparks, MD), juniors Emily O’Brien (New Canaan, CT) and Sarah Harper (Rochester, MN) and sophomore Libby Martin (St. Louis, MO) all boasted 3-0 wins for Amherst. At the number one spot, junior Caroline Shannon (Hanover, NH) battled back after dropping the first two games, 9-6, to defeat Tufts’ Rebecca Rice (St. Louis, MO), 3-2. The Amherst women’s squad returns to action on Monday, hosting Smith College at 7 p.m. and the men’s team returns from their winter hiatus on January 10 at Bates College.
