Amherst Women's Cross Country Second at NESCAC Championships, Men Eighth

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College women's cross country team finished second, while the men's team came in eighth at the 23rd-Annual NESCAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Wesleyan University on Saturday. Junior All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) led the women in the 5k race, finishing second overall with a time of 17:57.9, while sophomore Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) paced the men in the 8k race, posting an 11th-place finish in 26:13.1.
In the women's race, Garrahan was followed by rookie Nicole Anderson (Kailua, HI) and sophomore Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA), who crossed the line in eighth- and ninth-place. Sophomore Kim Partee (Brentwood, TN) followed in 14th, while first-year Caitlin McDermott-Murphy (Newton, MA) finished 23rd. Sophomores Meg Ray (Menands, NY) and Laura Mortimer (Jackson, MS) rounded out the top seven for the women.
On the men's side, junior Rich Wilson (Columbus, OH) followed Morrissey, claiming 28th-place in 26:42.1, while first-year Harrison Lakehomer (Eugene, OR) finished nipping at his heels, posting a 35th-place finish in 26:50.7. Senior co-captain Dave Schreiner (Manhattan Beach, CA) and sophomore Mike Harbus (New York, NY) nabbed 48th and 53rd, while juniors Nate Freese (Tunbridge, VT) and Rob Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) claimed 58th and 64th to round out the men's top seven.
Both squads return to action Saturday, Nov. 5th at the ECAC Championships, hosted by Connecticut College.
