Jeffs Trip Up Tufts, Blasted by Biola March 24, 2006 Senior pitcher Miya Warner (Berkeley, CA) led the way against Tufts, earning her fourth victory of the season with a three-hit, 10-strikeout performance on the hill. Rookie Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA) plated classmate Julia Cummings (Los Angeles, CA) in the first inning with the first of her three hits, while junior Caroline Polales (Winnetka, IL) crossed the dish in the second frame after doubling to lead off the inning. Rookie Alexa Princi (London, England) accounted for the Jeffs’ insurance tally in the sixth, scoring a sacrifice fly by sophomore Kelly King (Grosse Pointe Park, MI). Junior Annalise Rodli (La Canada, CA) and sophomore Elizabeth Neckes (Dover, MA) posted a pair of hits apiece. After giving up a run to start the game against Biola, Amherst bounced back with a trio of runs in the bottom half of the first. Sophomore Ralina Shaw (Tumwater, WA) knocked home all three with her third round-tripper of the season. Biola added another score in the second, but Amherst responded again in the third as King scored Polales with a double down the left-field line, and scored herself on a base hit by Princi. However, this was the end of the Amherst scoring, while Biola exploded for 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings and three more in the seventh. Sophomore hurler Samantha Miller (Newton, MA) took the loss, giving up just two earned runs in four innings of work. Warner and rookie Maddie Tamagni (Salinas, CA) finished the game surrendering a combined 10 runs (four earned). Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. with a doubleheader against visiting WPI. |
