Jeffs Clinch Fifth Straight NESCAC Tournament Bid, Blank Conn. College, 3-0February 17, 2006 AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College women’s hockey team clinched its fifth straight NESCAC Tournament bid with a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting Connecticut College on Friday night. The Jeffs (10-13/6-10 NESCAC) move into a tie for fifth place in the conference standings with Hamilton College with the win. A Hamilton loss at Williams College tomorrow would give Amherst the No. 5 seed in the NESCAC Tournament. MacLean opened the Jeffs’ scoring in the second period, poking home a rebounded shot from Harrington at the 7:30-mark, and returned the favor 8:30 later snatching the puck near mid-ice and feeding Harrington for a one-timer from the slot. Karega capped the shutout in the final frame, flipping a shot top-shelf after a scrum in front of the net. Juniors Meg Dickoff (Minnetonka, MN) and Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) assisted on the score. Senior goalie Gabby Pettril (Greensburg, PA) posted 35 saves in a losing effort for the Camels, who fell to 6-12-4 (4-10-2 NESCAC) and will earn the No. 7 seed in the NESCAC Tournament with a Trinity loss at Williams tonight. Amherst wraps up its regular-season slate tomorrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. against visiting non-conference foe Utica College. |
