AMHERST, MA – Amherst College senior Andrew Wilcox (Brooklyn, NY) and junior Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-Star team on Friday, while junior Alyssa Briody (Hopewell, NJ) bolstered her postseason resume as well, adding women's lacrosse all-star honors.
Wilcox continued an impressive list of postseason awards with First-Team All-New England recognition, already having been named STX/USILA Second-Team All-America, First-Team NEILA Division III All-New England and First-Team All-NESCAC this spring. He completed an outstanding collegiate career this spring, in which he was widely accepted as one of the top long-stick midfielders in the country. A three-time All-America honoree, and four-time All-New England recipient, Wilcox led the Jeffs in ground balls and takeaways in each of his four seasons at Amherst.
Cherney brought home Second-Team ECAC plaudits after grabbing First-Team All-NESCAC honors earlier this season, marking his third straight year with recognition from both organizations. A preseason All-America pick, he led Amherst and finished 11th in the conference in points (2.62/gm) and assists (1.08/gm).
Briody heaped Second-Team honors on to her pile of postseason awards and was the lone Lord Jeff on the women’s team. She received All-America credit from Inside Lacrosse, Womenslacrosse.com and the IWLCA/U.S. Lacrosse, as well as First-Team IWLCA All-Region acclaim and First-Team All-NESCAC praise after leading the Jeffs in each offensive category with 76 points on 49 goals and 27 assists. |
