Jeffs Win New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis

S. HADLEY, MA - The Amherst College women's tennis team captured three-of-six
singles flights and two-of-three doubles flights as they won the New England
Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, held at Mt. Holyoke College
over the weekend. The Jeffs posted a team score of 41 points, besting second-place
Williams College by 10 points.
Sophomores Alicia Menezes (Staten Island, NY) and Jennifer Murphy (Simsbury,
CT) and senior Hadley Miller (N. Canton, OH) took home the No. 3, 4 and
5 singles flights, respectively, while senior tri-captain Kristen Raverta
(W. Springfield, MA), sophomore Monica Snyder (Newton, MA) and rookie
Anuja Ankola (Scarsdale, NY) advanced to the semifinals before bowing
out in the No. 1, 2 and 6 tournaments.
Raverta and Menezes teamed to dominate the No. 1 doubles championship,
allowing no more than four points in any given match, while Synder and
Murphy displayed similar supremacy in the No. 2 flight. Miller and rookie
Tara Shabahang (Los Angeles, CA) posted a 8-0 victory in the second round
of the No. 3 tournament before falling in the quarterfinals.
