Amherst Squads Elimated by Tournament Host TrinityFrom a Trinity Release February 4, 2007 HARTFORD, CT – The Amherst College squash teams were each handed a shutout defeat from NESCAC Tournament host and national powerhouse Trinity College this weekend. The Amherst men’s side was defeated by the Bantams in the Tournament semi-final match after advancing past Bowdoin 6-3. The Lord Jeff women’s squad fell to Trinity in the quarterfinal round, before finishing in eighth place following a 5-4 loss to Hamilton. Day two of the men’s tournament produced a solid win for the Lord Jeffs over the #5 seed, Bowdoin. The top four Amherst players each won their matches over their Polar Bear counterparts, while Gautam Kalani and Jerome Givinazzo took wins in the six and eight seed spots as well. Amherst advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament where they would face tournament host and national powerhouse Trinity College. Trinity took a convincing 9-0 win over Amherst, with every match finishing in 3-0 scores. The win was the 159th consecutive victory for the Bantams, who are the top-ranked team in the nation. The Amherst women’s team fell to the 3rd-ranked Trinity Bantams in their quarterfinal match by a score of 9-0. Amherst moved on to face Middlebury in the fifth place match, and would falter there as well, losing eventually 6-3, and being relegated to the seventh place contest. Amherst would ultimately place eighth place in the conference tournament after being defeated by Hamilton College 5-4.
