Amherst picked up 17 All-Conference honors at the NESCAC Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

Six Jeffs Combine for 17 All-Conference Honors

HADLEY, MA - The NESCAC announced today the 2006-07 Men’s Swimming and Diving All-Conference Team. The top three finishers in each event at the 2007 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship receive All-Conference recognition. Six members of the Amherst College squad combined for 17 All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Christian Witzke (Jacksonville, FL) led the Lord Jeffs by picking up five All-Conference honors, including a second-place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle. Witzke finished third in both the 200-yard Freestyle (only .02 seconds behind the second-place finisher) and 1,650-yard Freestyle, and joined sophomore Mike Waskom (Wilton, CT) and senior co-captains John Ancona (Lake Forest, IL) and Ethan Treat (Newton, MA) to place third in the 400-yard Medley Relay. Witzke also anchored the 800-yard Freestyle Relay team of Treat, Waskom and junior Andrew Maslan (Mission Hills, KS) to a third-place finish.

The senior co-captains combined for four runner-up finishes, with Treat placing second in the 400-yard Individual Medley and 800-yard Freestyle Relay, and Ancona finishing second in the 100-yard Breaststroke (less than 0.5 seconds behind the winner) and 200-yard Breaststroke. Treat also placed third in the 200-yard Individual Medley.

Junior Connor Boyd (Northridge, CA) led the Amherst divers, picking up a second-place finish in 1-Meter Diving and a third-place finish in 3-Meter Diving.
