Ultimate Frisbee (Men's)
Purpose
Club Mission Statement:
Men’s Ultimate Frisbee is a sport for highly competitive, dedicated, non-varsity athletes. The team practices two hours a day, five days a week, so that it can represent Amherst successfully at six or more tournaments (spanning one or two full days each, on weekends) in the fall, and five or more tournaments in the spring, including a week-long tournament during spring break. By playing at such tournaments (located anywhere from Montreal, Canada to Savannah, GA), the team spreads knowledge of, and affection for, Amherst College to other schools. Additionally, Men’s Ultimate Frisbee hosts scrimmages (and a tournament every year) on Amherst College playing fields, so that Amherst College spectators can learn about this often misunderstood sport, meet players from other schools, and enjoy a good competition. Men’s Ultimate Frisbee attracts players who merely enjoy throwing frisbees as well as players who want to train, drill, practice plays, and win. It appeals to a variety of athletic personalities — and can afford to, being a club sport. With a large set of freshmen players, the team intends to do as well or better in tournaments throughout the year. It also intends to host a tournament at Amherst in the spring.
