Purpose: The
Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace is a private, nonprofit
organization dedicated to advancing
cooperation between nations and
promoting active international
engagement by the United States.
Founded in 1910, its work is
nonpartisan and dedicated to
achieving practical results.
As one of the world's leading think tanks specializing in international affairs,
the Endowment conducts programs
of research, discussion and publication.
The Junior Fellows Program is
designed to provide a substantive
work experience for students
who have a serious career interest
in the area of international
affiars.
Eligibility: Applicants
must be graduating seniors, or
have graduated in the last academic
year AND must not have begun graduate studies.
Applicants do not have to be U.S. citizens however, all applicants must be eligible
to work in the U.S.
Award amount and conditions: Junior
Fellows work as research assistants
to senior associates working
on the Carnegie Endowment's projects:
non-proliferation, democracy
building, international economics
(including reform), China-related
issues, Russian/Eurasian affairs,
trade and the environment, and
U.S. leadership. All Fellowships
begin on August 1. Fellows are
hired for aproximately 1 year.
Junior Fellows recieve a monthly
salary equivalent to aproximately
$31,000 annually (subject to federal,
state, and local taxes). Benefits
include, medical, dental, and
life insurance as well as vacation
leave. Fellows are responsible
for their own housing.
Number offered: 8-10 per year.
Amherst can nominate 2 candidates.
Deadline: Preliminary applications
are due in the Office of Fellowships in November.
