The Harry S.
Truman Scholarship
Provides a $26,000 scholarship for undergraduate students who wish financial
support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers
in government. The Foundation seeks candidates who have extensive records of
public and community service, are committed to careers in government or elsewhere
in public service, and have outstanding leadership potential and communication
skills. Eligible candidates must attend an accredited U.S. college or university
and be nominated by the institution's Truman Faculty Representative [candidates
MAY NOT apply directly], be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, complete an application
and write a policy recommendation, be in their junior year, except for residents
of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa or the Northern Marianas
who must be in their senior class.

New York City Urban Fellows & Government
Fellows Programs
These programs offer outstanding college seniors and graduate students the
opportunity and challenge of an intensive field work experience in urban government.
Fellows work closely with City officials on long- and short-term projects and
attend weekly seminars to get an academic perspective on the workings and problems
of local government. Urban Fellows are selected annually in a nationwide competition
and serve for a full academic year, from mid-September to mid-June. Government
Fellows participate in a 10-week program. They receive a stipend from the City
and a choice of paid health insurance plans. A fellow must be about to start
his/her senior year, or must be an accepted or actual graduate student.
All students who are interested in an involvement in urban government are encouraged
to apply regardless of previous field of training. For further information

K. Udall Scholarships
Offers scholarships for sophomores and juniors pursuing careers in environmental
public policy and for Native American or Alaska Native sophomores and juniors
pursuing careers in health care or tribal public policy. Recipients receive
$5,000 towards expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board for one
year.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award
Graduating seniors may apply directly for these awards for $10,000 for a proposal
that encompasses any activity that furthers the public good. The activity can
be undertaken by the student alone or working through established charitable,
religious, education, governmental, or other public service organizations.
One to two awards are given nationally. Approximately 120 applications are
received each year, and about 20 finalists are selected for an interview. Applications

The Tomás
Rivera Policy Institute (TRPI) Fellowship Program
TRPI directs research and analyses on issues related to political and civil
engagement, education and the economic well being of the Latino community.
The TRPI Public Policy Fellowship Program targets bright, enthusiastic graduate-level
students from across the country to offer them experience in conducting relevant
research which can biased to inform community leaders, policymakers, and other
experts in formulating public policy affecting U.S. Latinos.
For eight weeks, two Fellows will participate in ongoing research projects
at the Institute's Claremont, California office in a professional, nonprofit,
nonpartisan research-oriented setting. Each Fellow will work full-time under
the direction of one of TRPI's Senior Researchers. Participating Fellows will

Urban
Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (U.S.
Department of Housing and Urban Development)
Awards approximately ten fellowships to encourage new Ph.D. recipients to undertake
research now, and throughout their careers, on topics of interest to HUD. This
research will be valuable to the agency, as well as to practitioners and other
researchers, and will promote a diversity of perspectives in the academic and
policy arenas. The program enables fellows to engage in postdoctoral research
on topics of interest to HUD for fifteen months. Through this fellowship program,
recent doctoral recipients will be able to make a positive impact on the scholarship
relating to housing and urban development, and demonstrate the value and necessity
of such research to their discipline. Extensive eligibility requirements must

State of California Capital Fellows Program
The Center administers the Assembly and Executive Fellowship, Senate Associates,
and the Judicial Administration Fellowship programs. These programs, known
collectively as the Capital Fellows Programs, are nationally recognized. The
18 Assembly Fellows, 18 Senate Associates, 18 Executive Fellows and 5 Judicial
Administration Fellows receive an outstanding opportunity to engage in public
service and prepare for future careers, while actively contributing to the
development and implementation of public policy in California. More information

California Executive Fellows Program
This is a one-year public service and leadership development program to extend
knowledge of California government, to prepare leaders for public careers and

Herbert Scoville, Jr. Peace Fellowship
The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program invites college graduates to apply for full-time, six-to-nine month Fellowships in Washington, DC. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with a strong interest in these issues who have prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy.
Deadline: mid-October for spring, and mid-February for fall
Dell Thurmond Woodard Fellowship is part of the Tisdale Fellowship program, a summer internship available to undergraduate and graduate students. Any student, undergraduate or graduate, who is interested in diversity and ethics issues, and in learning about high-tech public policy issues, can apply for this Fellowship.
