K. Udall Scholarships
Offers scholarships for sophomores and juniors pursuing careers in environmental
public policy and for Native American or Alaska Native sophomores and juniors
pursuing careers in health care or tribal public policy. Recipients receive
$5,000 towards expenses for tuition, fees, books, and room and board for one
year.

Environmental
Careers Organization (ECO)
ECO places approximately 400 interns each year in environmental "internships," though
most of these pay quite well and provide good entry-level opportunities for
graduating seniors. If you are a college junior, senior or graduate student,
OR you have completed your Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. degree
within the last three years, you are eligible. Internships last from 3 months
to 2 years. Average stipend is $425 per week.

graduate schools. Participating graduate schools provide financial support
in the second year of graduate study based on need. Other conditions apply.

Press Club Foundation Scholarships
Offers twelve $2,000 scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students for
a winning essay on an area of the world or an international issue that is in
keeping with the applicant's interest. Application consists of a resume, cover
letter and essay of 500 words.

National
Association of Black Journalists
Annually awards a minimum of ten $2,500 scholarships to African American college
students who are planning to pursue a career in journalism. Any foreign or
US student currently attending an accredited four-year college or university
may apply. Recipients also receive an all-expense-paid trip to the NABJ convention
and are required to participate in student convention projects.

American Journalists Association
Offers scholarships to outstanding high school seniors and undergraduate and
graduate students. Students are selected based on the following criteria 1)
commitment to the field of journalism; 2) sensitivity to Asian American issues

financial need.

for Undergraduates
Provides paid summer internships at the ABF for college students. Must be a
sophomore or junior to apply. Each student is assigned to an ABF Research Fellow
who involves the student in his or her research project.

LGBTQ
The
Point Foundation National LGBT Scholarship
Fund
Grants scholarships to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students of
distinction. The mission of The Point Foundation is to provide financial support,
mentoring and hope to meritorious students who are marginalized because of
their sexual orientation or gender identity. The foundation offers these awards
as an investment in a better world for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender
people. In the previous year, $125,000 in scholarships were awarded to eight
scholars--six of whom are continuing their educations, and two of whom have
graduated with highest honors.

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force – the
Vaid Fellowship
The Vaid Fellowship supports and recognizes the leadership of people of color
and other emerging leaders in the progressive movement for LGBT equality. Vaid
Fellows are given a great deal of responsibility. One Vaid Fellow will be selected
for Winter 2004, to join two current Fellows. The three Vaid Fellows selected
for Summer 2004 will focus on legal and policy research and social science
and legal research fields.

Program
Program offers students to explore careers in heart or stroke research in cardiovascular
research laboratories in California, Nevada or Utah for 10 weeks during the
summer to work under the supervision of experienced scientists. Projects range
from basic molecular research to direct physiological studies. Some opportunities
for participation in more clinical investigations also available. This program
is open to students of Junior or Senior status enrolled in a college or university
at time of application, attend an institution in California, Nevada or Utah
or be a resident of one of these states. Must have completed a combined total
of at least four semesters of six quaters of biological sciences, physics or
chemistry. Must have completed at least one quarter of calculus, statistics,
computational methods or computer science. $4000 stipend for 10 weeks of summer

Wiesel Prize in Ethics
This prize is for juniors and seniors. The prize is given based on an essay
competition through which students are challenged to examine and analyze urgent
ethical issues confronting today's society. The essay topic and application
will be available in September. Five prizes are awarded ranging in value from
$500 to $5000.

The
Gates Millennium Scholars Program
The program provides scholarships and fellowships for outstanding low-income
African-American, Native American, Hispanic American, and Asian-Pacific American
students to attend the undergraduate and graduate institutions of their choice.
Individuals selected as Gates Millennium Scholars at the undergraduate level
will receive funds for the cost of tuition, fees, books and living costs not
covered by grants and scholarships already committed as part of a student's
financial aid package. Scholars who pursue advanced degrees in the fields of
engineering, mathematics, science, education or library science will receive
up to four years of full financial support for post-graduate study, up to and
including the doctorate.

The
Harry S. Truman Scholarship
Provides a $26,000 scholarship for undergraduate students who wish financial
support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers
in government. The Foundation seeks candidates who have extensive records of
public and community service, are committed to careers in government or elsewhere
in public service, and have outstanding leadership potential and communication
skills. Eligible candidates must attend an accredited U.S. college or university
and be nominated by the institution's Truman Faculty Representative [candidates
MAY NOT apply directly], be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, complete an application
and write a policy recommendation, be in their junior year, except for residents
of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa or the Northern Marianas
who must be in their senior class.

Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program
Offers a $3,000 prize plus the opportunity to attend a summer institute where
students participate in leadership training and seminars on international issues.
Open only to sophomores -- eligible candidates should have a B+ average or
higher and solid experience in community service endeavors.

Advocacy
Institute Fellowship Program
The Angie Martin Public Interest Fellowship is open to undergrad, grad, or
recent graduates that display an interest in advocacy, social justice and social
change. Work on programs such as the Capacity Builing Program and the Tobacco
Control Project. Projects include writing and editing articles, developing
advocacy case studies, training for global social change leaders, and interviewing
and research. The position is paid, full-time for 6 months at the Advocacy
Institute in Washington D.C. (note: a summer internship position is also available).

Saxe Memorial Prize for Students Working in
Public Service Internships
$2,000 will be awarded to one or more undergraduate or graduate students working
in public service. The award is meant to enable the student to gain practical
experience in public service by taking a no-pay or low-pay job or internship
during a summer or other term. Preference will be given to applicants who have
already found such a position, but who require additional funds. Please see the application details information.

Seventeen/Cover Girl Volunteerism Awards
These awards are for young women ages 12 to 21 who have done something extraordinary
in the field of volunteerism, and whose accomplishments have benefited others
in a major way. You may enter yourself or you can nominate someone you feel
is deserving of an award. First-place recipients will win $10,000 plus an
additional cash donation will go to a charitable organization they've worked
to support. Second-place winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship,
as well as a cash donation for the organization they support. Up to 24 more
winners received honorable mentions and a $1,000 Savings Bond. Look for more

Humanity
in Action Fellowship Summer Program
The core programs provide the fundamental foundation and experience for participation
in HIA. During the five-week period, the international groups of HIA Fellows
explore the minority issues basic to the HIA mission and enter the extensive
HIA network. It is during this period they that research and write their reports
and prepare to engage in outreach after the core programs are over. The associations
with other Fellows and the immersion in the minority issues provides common
experiences for all the Fellows—experiences that aid the development of careers
based upon concern for human rights and the protection of minorities.

Criteria for selection of fellows: Fellowships are restricted to (1) undergraduate
students in good academic standing, (2) recent graduates, or (3) graduate students

Program
The program offers awards for study in Asia forAmerican undergraduates who

A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The program will provide up to $5,000 for U.S. citizens and nationals who are
undergraduate students at two year and four year institutions to pursue overseas
study, enabling students who have limited financial means to participate in
study abroad program opportunities worldwide. Priority consideration for awards
will be given to applicants of academic merit who receive Federal Pell Grants
under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

Rotary
Foundation Scholarships
Offers a wide range of funding opportunites for study and work abroad, including Ambassadorial
Scholarships, World Peace Scholarships, Grants for University Teachers ,
