Amherst College Public School Teaching Fellowships--Deadline May 5
The Amherst College Career Center, in conjunction with the Center for Community Engagement, is pleased to offer students from the Class of 2008 the opportunity to apply for an Amherst College Public School Teaching Fellowship.
The intent of this Fellowship is to provide financial assistance to seniors who are making a commitment to teaching in U.S. public schools. Fellowships will be awarded to members of the Class of ‘08 who are planning to teach in public schools through one of several ways including; pursuing teacher certification through either graduate study or other teacher certification programs; alternative/immersion programs that place teachers in public schools. Preference will be given to those who plan to teach in challenging urban or rural settings
Teaching Fellows will receive a stipend of between $2,500 and $5,000 upon verification of the Fellow’s enrollment in the program. The awards are limited and the process will be competitive.
This is a paper/email application process: you may email your materials as described below, or bring them into the Career Center. There is no online application.
Applicants are asked to submit:
- A personal statement

Why have you chosen to teach?
b.
What impact do you hope to have on students? Please include a description of the school system in which you will or hope to be working.
c.
How have your Amherst education and other experiences prepared you to teach?
d.
How does teaching relate to your future career plans?
2. A statement of financial need
3. If applicable, a list of other supporting fellowships, scholarships, grants, etc.
from Amherst College or other sources
4. A current resume
5. Two written letters of reference--at least one from a member of the Amherst
College faculty.
You may submit a copy of references submitted to the teacher program with a brief cover note from the recommender.
Letter of references may be emailed to Dean Lee.
6. Confirmation of acceptance to a teacher training program
