Creative Writing Courses
Writing Poetry I - Prof. David Sofield

Writing Poetry I is an introductory writing workshop.

Professor Sofield welcomes expressions of interest in Writing Poetry I. Put a poem or two (up to five pages total) in his Johnson Chapel mailbox, come to his office hours or e-mail him at drsofield@amherst.edu.

To apply for the course, please submit a writing sample (a couple of poems, preferably, or pieces of prose) by the first day of class. Professor Sofield will post a list of admitted students with the English Department, on the bulletin board of the Creative Writing Center, and on the one outside of Johnson Chapel 22. Please put your email address on your poems; five-college students will be notified by email about course admissions.

Additional Information

Please put your name on every page of your writing sample. Your contact information (school, year, phone, e-mail) should go on the first page. A cover note listing any previous creative writing course(s) and describing your writing experience would be a good idea.

Contact Catherine Newman if you have questions. 542-8200 or crnewman@amherst.edu.
