Labeling with Spine Labeling System

  1. Turn on hard drive and monitor.
  2. Turn on power supply which will automatically turn on printer and iron.
  3. Set font on front of printer to NLQ (it defaults to UTL which is big dots).
    • Print head will already be set to second place (first smudges label).
  4. Sign on to workstation as yourself.
  5. Click on Eterm Old icon.
  6. Log on to III.
    • login: use the label III login name
    • password: use the label password (changed each semester)
  7. Select D > Catalog DATABASE maintenance.
  8. Select U > UPDATE records.
  9. Key your initials: use the label name
  10. Key you password: use the label password (changed each semester)
  11. Select I > ITEM record.
  12. Call up item by scanning barcode.
  13. Select L > Print LABEL now.
  14. Select Q > QUIT.
  15. Select Q > QUIT.
    • OR use Function key F1 - The F1 key has been mapped to perform steps 14-16 (sometimes after initial function key use, you have to hit Q to exit first record).
  16. After labels are completed, advance the printer tape using the Line feed on the front of the printer.
  17. DO NOT use the plastic roller knob on the right side of the printer to advance the tape.
  18. If a barcode will not display a record, place the book on the problem shelf
  19. Match each label to call number on control slip.
    • If a label does not match the control slip, attach label to slip and put the book on the problem shelf.
    • If III prints out a label that splits the call number line, attach label to slip and put the book on the problem shelf (serials, VHS, etc.).
  20. To end labeling session, log off III and return to desktop:
    1. Press enter.
    2. CHANGE record type to be updated or QUIT? (c/q) Q.
    3. Select Q > QUIT.
    4. Select X > DISCONNECT.
    5. Select File from the menu bar.
    6. Select Exit.
