Pasting Procedures
Books
- Paste date due slip.
- Do not paste a date due slip for Reference items (flag in book
will say "Ref" or "Dept - Ref").
- Use a thin strip of glue at the top and place on the left flyleaf, ½ inch from top edge.
- If there is sheet music where the due date slip should go, set
the item aside. The due date slip cannot cover up the bars of music.
- Paste bookplate.
- Look at the control slip for fund code:
- Any code that begins with "g" gets a purple general
bookplate.
- For all other codes, see the cubicles at the desk (endowed
accounts).
- U.S. Government documents - use rubber stamp instead of a
bookplate.
- If a bookplate is already with the control slip, paste it
(item was a gift).
- Paste all around edge of bookplate and place in the exact center
of left inside book cover.
- If there is text on inside fly leafs or liners, go to next blank
left page and paste the bookplate there.
- Insert wax paper to absorb excess glue.
Foreign books
- With flaps:
- Paste down front and back flaps.
- Paste date due slip.
- Paste bookplate to the side of flap or opposite page facing flap.
- Asian books:
- Paste the due date slip on the right flyleaf.
- Paste the bookplate in the center of the right inside cover.
- The barcode should still be placed at the top of the left outside cover.
Videos
- Do nothing with paste.
Maps
- Do nothing with paste.
Miscellaneous
- For thin pamphlet covers, sometimes you can use the rubber stamp that
says "AMHERST COLLEGE" if the bookplate is general.
- More general plates are in workroom, be sure to keep several inches
on hand.
- For special bookplates, let your supervisor know you are low by leaving
one on their desk with the note "more?"
- Errata slips should be tipped in on the page to which they refer -- use a thin line of glue along the gutter edge. If more than one page is referenced, paste the erratum inside the back cover, below the date due slip.
