FIVE COLLEGE MUSEUMS / HISTORIC DEERFIELD COLLECTIONS DATABASE:
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
The collections catalogue is located here:
http://museums.fivecolleges.edu/ To begin your search, click on the word Search in the blue navigation bar near the top of the page.
This will bring you to the Advanced Search-Objects page: http://museums.fivecolleges.edu/advsearch.php?module=objects
*Please note:
The database includes objects from six regional museums. To restrict your search to objects at the Mead Art Museum, you must enter the letters AC (for Amherst College) in the Object Number field at the top of the search screen.
SOME HELPFUL HINTS:
First-time users will find the Maker, Maker Culture, Object Name/Title, and Credit Line fields easiest to use. They all search for keywords, or portions of keywords. (Typing “Mone”, for example, will bring up works by Claude Monet and Simone Titone.)
The drop-down lists required for Object Type and Materials searches can be difficult for non-specialists to navigate.
Date Made is best for highly specific searches for objects with certain dates: it does not provide ranges or centuries.
Description data (like the digital images posted on the site) continues to be enriched. This feature will become increasingly useful in future years.
