A little background...

The Sabrinas are Amherst College's oldest all-female a cappella group. The first woman students entered Amherst in 1976, and by 1980 the Sabrinas were a fully-functioning singing group. At first, the group experimented with names like "The Kumquats", but quickly abandoned these monikers in favor of something more historic. The Sabrina is the name of a statue of a goddess that, until 1976, was the only "female" on Amherst's campus. In the past, the odd and even classes would compete to steal The Sabrina from each other, but now The Sabrina is safely locked away. Her name, however, lives on in the Amherst College Sabrinas. If you know where the Sabrina actually is, please tell us so we can steal her in a Saferides van. No, just kidding...we promise...

As a group, we focus on putting on a great show while having a fabulous time together. Our members share an obvious passion for music and singing, but are also involved in a broad range of activities, from varsity sports to TAing. We make a point of working with everyone's schedule so that no one is forced to give up something they love. Most importantly, the Sabrinas enjoy singing and spending time together. Rehearsals are always fun, but despite the shenanigans that inevitably occur at every one, we still somehow manage to get stuff done (heyyy...that's a poem!). Outside of rehearsing, we take time to have team dinners, parties, and take road trips. So in a nutshell, we're kind of a big deal.

The End!
