AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Tim Christian (Agawam, MA), a co-captain for the Amherst College men's soccer team, was named to the Senior All-Star Team by the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League. Seniors wre selected from over 100 member schools by a vote of coaches. Christian and his team of Division III and NAIA seniors will compete against the best seniors from Division I and II institutions on Saturday, April 25 at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Connecticut. The NEISL Senior All-Star Game will be played at 5:00pm, and it will be followed by a USISL A-League game between the Connecticut Wolves and the Worcester Wildfire at 7:30pm.
Christian earned NSCAA All-America Second Team honors after leading the 1997 Amherst men's soccer team to its first-ever NCAA Final Four appearance. The Jeffs finished the season with a 12-5-2 record as the No. 4 team in the nation, the squad's finest showing in the 76-year history of the varsity program. The midfielder posted a team-leading eight goals in the regular season, highlighted by a pair of two-goal games. The co-captain added four assists in the NCAA Tournament, including the final feed of the season as Amherst took a 1-0 lead on the defending national champions in the NCAA Semifinals. Christian will graduate with 17 goals and 17 assists in his collegiate career as a two-time New England All-Star.
The midfielder entered Amherst as a high school All-American out of Cathedral High School in Springfield, Massachusetts. Christian exploded in his rookie campaign, leading the Jeffs with four goals and four assists, followed up with a two goal-six assist showing in his first trip to the NCAAs as a sophomore. Amherst advanced to the 1995 New England Finals before falling to eventual national champ Williams.
