ANDOVER, Massachsuetts -- Sam Altman (Owing Mills, MD) and James DeLuca (Rochester, NY) both tallied three goals and an assist each to lead Amherst College (6-3) to a 14-7 victory over Bates College (4-3). The match was played at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts.
Bates tallied the first goal of the game when Jay Lively (North Falmouth, ME) scored his first of three 1:57 after the opening whistle. Amherst answered with the first collegiate goal by senior long-stick defenseman Ben Beckman (Cleveland Heights, OH), who notched his second late in the third. The Jeffs rattled off six straight toward a 6-1 advantage at the beginning of the second quarter. Amherst had an 8-4 lead at halftime, and the Jeffs led by as much as 14-4 after three quarters.
Rookie keeper Corey Simonson (Brookline, MA) made 17 stops for Amherst College in 55 minutes of work, followed by another five saves by sophomore Pat Korody (Rockville, MD). Dirk Huntington (Falls Church, VA) and Jason Beyer (Peekskill, NY) combined for eight Bobcat saves.
