AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst College (26-6) and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (25-12) split in a doubleheader at Hill Field. With Coast Guard's victory in game two, the team sets a school record for most wins in a single season with 25.

Coast Guard had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when three errors and a wild pitch advanced Peggy Gross (Poquoson, VA) around the bases. Amherst cut the lead to 2-1 after three when a single by Vicki Gonzalez (Miami, FL) brought home Carline Kelly (South Dartmouth, MA), who had singled to lead off the inning. After the Bears had sent 10 batters to the plate for six runs, Schwarting drove home Sweeney in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 8-2 heading into the final inning.
