BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College junior Rob Brown (Hampton, New Brunswick) scored a pair of goals in the first period, helping the Polar Bears build a 5-0 lead after two periods and defeat Amhrest, 5-3 on Saturday afternoon. Bowdoin (9-7-1, 7-4-1 ECAC East) extends its winning streak to eight straight games with the victory.
Brown put the Polar Bears up early when he took a pass from Rick Vallarelli (Arlington, MA) and zipped the puck past Amherst goalie Chris Addesa (Andover, MA). Bowdoin pushed the lead to 3-0 after a Lord Jeff defenseman batted a puck into his own net after a Chris King (North Smithfield, RI) shot and then Brown converted a penalty shot for the early cushion.
Scott Fox (Locust Valley, NY) scored a power play goal midway through the second before David Cataruzolo (Watertown, MA) fed CHris Carosi (Warwick, RI) in front for a 5-0 lead with just 14 seconds left in the second frame.
Amherst (9-7-1, 7-5-1 ECAC East) put the press on in the third as Paul Gozzo (Avon, CT), Mike Noone (Swampscott, MA) and Doug Erickson (North Billerica, MA) all scored goals in the third, but the rally would fall short. Colin Robinson (Mason, NH) made 33 saves in the victory while Addesa made 31 stops in the losing effort.
