AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Trinity scored two unanswered goals in the second period to claim the championship of the Ben McCabe Tournament. This win, the Bantams' second of the season, is the 300th career victory for John Dunham. The Head Coach currently boasts a 300-214-18 record in 24 seasons at Trinity.
Amherst scored first 7:35 into the opening period as junior Rob MacDonald (Walpole, MA) slapped in a shot from rookie Chris Orszulak (Longmeadow, MA) and Tri-Captain Mike Noone (Swampscott, MA). But the Bantams equalized six minutes later as sophomore Ryan Southard (Woburn, MA) poked the puck past keeper Chris Addesa (Andover, MA).
Tied 1-1 heading into the second period, the Jeffs fired 17 shots onto the Trinity net for 17 saves by Jeffrey Blair (Grand Island, NY). Joseph Roberto (Endicott, NY) notched the go-ahead goal 2:19 into the period before Michael Schulz (Osterville, MA) scored the unassisted game-winner with just under four to play.
Pulling the Jeff keeper within a minute of the final whistle, Charlie Blyth (Beaconsfield, Quebec) rounded out scoring with just three seconds left in the game.
"It's a great win for the kids," commented Dunham. "It just happens to be my 300th, but I'm really glad for these kids. It's a great win."
While Trinity won the Championship game of the Ben McCabe Tournament, Connecticut College held on to defeat Wesleyan 6-4 in the Consolation game earlier today. The Bantams next host New England College on Friday at 7:35pm, while Hamilton will travel to Amherst for a 7:00pm face-off on Friday.
