AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Gretchen Bowe (Hampstead, NH) registered four goals and an assist to lead Amherst to a 6-3 victory over Southern Maine. This is the second four-goal game in Bowe's rookie season as the Jeffs move to 8-9-1 and snap a four-game losing streak with the win. The Huskies, meanwhile, fall to 5-11-1.
Amherst took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission before Southern Maine's Cathy Davis (Mexico, ME) put the Huskies on the board. Bowe notched two tallies in the second period to sandwich the first by rookie captain Breanne Fortiguerra (Lyman, ME), who netted a pair of goals for the Huskies.
Senior Jess Frisch (Bethesda, MD) added a goal and three assists for the Jeffs, while fellow captain Val Klein (Philadelphia, PA) rounded out the game's scoring midway through the third period. Husky goalie Samantha Whitman (Saxtons River, VT) made 27 saves while Lord Jeff keeper Cindy Matsushita (Bronx, NY) made 21 saves with strong defensive support.
