After I graduated from Amherst in 1994 I spent three semesters at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore studying Earth & Planetary Sciences. In January 1996 they agreed to give me my Masters and I agreed to leave. I moved to Cambridge, MA shortly thereafter and made full and rich use of my two degrees by working in the retail book business for a year. In June 1997 I went to work for Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, where I ran a database and did donor research (assessing the wealth and interests of the wealthier members of Boston's 250,000 strong Jewish community). In September 1999 I took my current job as the Manager of Information Services for the Harvard School of Public Health Development Office. I supervise a staff of two (although one of them recently left) and manage gift processing, keep our donor records, and provide computer systems support for 25 people. It is geek heaven and so much better than grad school.

I also purport to have a "life" once in a while. I exercise (gym and walking), go to the movies, check out Boston's many fine bars, restaurants and bars, travel a little bit and visit with my (mainly Amherst & WAMH alumni) pals and lovely family. After grad school I got back into Jewish religious life and I lead a Friday night service for grad students and young adults at Harvard Hillel in Cambridge most weeks. I keep my car radio tuned to the area's many fine college radio stations (WZBC, WMBR) and try not too be critical of their on air technique. I catch the odd concert in town (as of this writing in June 2000 I will be seeing Papas Freitas and Juliana Hatfield in a few days and spent New Years Eve at a Man... Or Astroman show) and I never, ever miss a chance to see Superchunk. When I visit Amherst ( which I do several times a year) I always stop by the station and I am always impressed by what the kids are up to these days. When I think back to what awesome times I had as part of the WAMH community and the wonderful people who were part of it I realize that it was one of the highlights of my time at Amherst.
