In 2001, Dr. Lenore Manderson, a medical anthropologist living in Melborne Australia, lost the use of her left hand while writing "Surface Tensions," a book based on her research on trauma to the body.   Nerve explores Manderson's struggles with her sudden disability and her journey to discover a new identity and sense of self.
