NCAA - May 25th
While qualifying automatically in the 1500, 5000 and the 10000, first year
phenom Carter Hamill raced only in the 5000. With a very deep field, including
the defending champion from last year, last year's 1500m Champion, the
NCAA XC champion from this past fall and a host of All-Americans, Carter
shot into the lead right from the gun and led the first 9 laps going through
the mile in 5:21, the 3k in 10:08, the 2 mile in 10:50. After the first
mile, the race broke into a pack of 5 and shortly after the 2 mile it became
a 3 person race with Mary Proulx of Keene St and Nicole Cueno of Grinnell
and Carter. Carter would finish in 3rd place with a new personal/school
record of 16:56.62 to earn her 3rd All-American honor this year. She finished
18th at the XC Nationals, won the 5000m at the Indoor Nationals, and now
grabbed 3rd at the outdoor Nationals.
ECAC - May 16 & 17
Finals exams, papers, thesis defending, packing up dorm rooms and a rather
strong wind did not deter both teams from hvaing a strong showing at the
ECAC Championship. On windy thursday nite, Emily Lobsenz finished her Amherst
career in victorious fashion as she raced a very determined 10k - leading
all but one of the laps, and throwing in constant surges to run away from
the rest of the field and win her first ever Championship! In the same
race, Ali Dimon raced one of her best races to date, as she used the field
to her advantage to help her grab a 5th place and All- ECAC honors. Day
Two saw a lot more wind but Carter Hamill grabbed an automatic qualifying
mark in the 1500 with a very strong race as she finished 2nd in a 4:36.96,
which should seet her up nicely for the 5k at NCAA's this upcoming weekend.
Aly Venti, grabbed second in her section with her best time of the outdoor
season. Amie Shei capped her outstanding 4 year career with a 7th place
finish in the 400, to capture All-ECAC honors and then anchored the 4 x
400 relay team of Annie Perez, Rebecca Woo and Laurel Kilgour to a 13th
place finish. Laurel Kilgour led the 800m contingent with her 7th place
finish, with Becca right on her heels in 9th and Annie Perez coming in
12th place. Erinn White grabbed 6th place in the 5000m despite having just
finished her last final exam shortly before, and Helen Dole had another
solid race in the 400 Hurdles to cap a great year.
A very strong wind on the backstretch made fast times a difficult task
for the day but everyone competed extremely well. Jack Morgan raced an
outstanding 800, as he made the moves that he needed to at the right times,
and grabbed the final All-ECAC spot with his 8th place finish. Janak Chandrasoma
grabbed 19th placein the 400, and Nathaniel Mahlberg capped an outstanding
first year campaign with an 11th place finish in the 400 Hurdles. The three
of them joined forces with Brian Hart to race to a 7th place finish in
the 4 x 400 Relay.
Open New Englands - May 10 & 11
For the first time, the men and women competed in the combined Open New
Englands Championships on a beautiful weekend for a track meet. The men
got under way first with trials on Friday, and 16 was the magic number
of the day as Jack Morgan raced in a packed group in his 800 and finished
strongly in 1:57 and grabbed 16th place. Nathaniel Mahlberg raced
well over the intermediate hurdles and when all placings were finished,
he too grabbed a 16th spot. Janak Chandrasoma had a good start in the 200
and he too would finish 16th overall. The final event of the weekend was
the 4x400 relay, as Nathaniel, Jack, Brian Hart and Janak ran to their
best time of the season but were only able to grab a 17th place finish,
just missing a clean sweep of the 16's.
Carter Hamill was the only scoring runner for the women as she grabbed
a runner-up finish in the 5k, and lowered her own school record in the
process, just missing cracking the 17 minute barrier with her 17:03. In
the earlier section of the 5k, both Erinn White and Emily Lobsenz lowered
their best times of the season. The 800 was a hot event for the team as
both Laurel Kilgour and Annie Perez both lowered their best times by more
then 2 seconds, and each finished under the former school record, with
Laurel's 2:16.87 besting Annie's 2:17.28. Becca Woo finished just behind
with a 2:18. Amie Shei continued her sub 60 second streack in the 400 as
she raced to a 13th place finish with a 59.76, and then anchored the 4x400
team of Perez, Kilgour and Kate Hamill to a 4:07 finish. Kate Hamill ran
her fastest 400 hurdle race of the season, as she just missed cracking
67 seconds. Lee-Jay Henry missed making the finals in the 100H bu one place
as she ran to a PR of 15.42, but had problems in the triple jump. A misstep
landing on her first phase caused significant swelling and she was not
able to complete her jumping. Aly Venti finished 2nd in her section of
the 1500 runing a very strong race despite spending the large majority
of time over the last few weeks in the pool due to injury.
DIII New Englands - May 4
The women competed at Springfield, while the men were at Williams, but
both got to enjoy a sunny and warm day to compete on. The women finished
12th, while the men finished 17th. The 4 x 800 Relay quartet of Annie Perez,
Diana Rancourt, Carter Hamill and Becca Woo grabbed the highest Amherst
placing as they finished 2nd. Emily Lobsenz garnered a 3rd place finish
in the 10k. Amie Shei, after being so close on numerous occasions, finally

a 5th finish and also run a sub 60 leg in the 4x400 later in the day. Lee-Jay
Henry raced to her personal best in the High Hurdles to grab 4th, and then,
on her last jump moved from 7th into 4th with a new freshmen record and
another NCAA provisional mark in the triple jump as she bettered the 37
foot mark. Rebecca Woo led the 800 crew as she finished 9th, and Laurel
Kilgour raced to her fastest outdoor time to grab 10th, and Annie Perez
broke the 2:20 mark for the first time as she grabbed 13th with a 2:19.68
in the second section of the 800. Carter Hamill dropping down to the 1500
grabbed an 8th place finish with a new freshmen mark and an NCAA provisional
time with her 4:41 effort. Alison Rodriguez ran a strong race in the steeplechase
despite being the first time with the long water pit. Kate Hamill
grabbed 13th in the 400H with Helen Dole coming in strongly right behind
her.
Janak Chandrasoma grabbed All-New England accolades in three events
to lead the team, as he finished 7th in the 200 and ran legs on the 7th
place 4 x 100 along with Jay Wagstaff, Brian Hart and Matt Monteith, and
then anchored the 4 x 400 team of Nathaniel Mahlberg, Hart and Jack Morgan
to a 6th place finish. Nathaniel Mahlberg grabbed All-New England honors
in the 110 Hurdles as he finished 7th in that event. Jack missed scoring
by one place as he raced to his second fastest 800 ever, and Jay and Matt
both raced well into the headwind of the 100 and grabbed 11th and 14 respectively,
improving upon their seed places at the beginning of the meet.
NESCAC's - April 27-28
Despite braving Maine weather that was more suitable for winter then for
the last weekend of April, both teams had a successful if nto cold and
wet conference championships. Day 1 on Saturday was dry and sunny but the
wind kept things very chilly, and then Sunday gave us snow, sleet, rain
and temps that did not get much above 40 - we could have raced during the
winter on nicer days. Despite all that mother nature had to offer, we got
many outstanding efforts. The women grabbed 7th place over all and were
led by several school record breaking performances. Carter Hamill knocked
over 1:30 off of the former record in the 10k as she grabbed 3rd and automatcially
qualified for NCAA's, and came back on Sunday to score points in the 1500
as well. Also in the 10k, Emily Lobsenz grabbed a 6th place finish while
attaining a provisional mark for NCAA's and Ali Dimon ran a great race
to neraly crack 40 minutes in her first 10k. The 4 x 800 team of Annie
Perez, Kate Hamill, Rebecca Woo, and Laurel Kilgour grabbed 3rd place and
knocked 5 seconds off of their school record time as they dipped under
9:25. In the 800m, Rebecca Woo lowered the schools record by 3 seconds

to the record books as she surpassed the freshmen record in the TJ. Kate
Hamill and Helen Dole each raced great in the 400 Hurdles and surprised
many by grabbing 6th and 8th place points in addition to lowering their
best times. Amie Shei grabbed a pair of 7th place finishes in the 200 and
400 and also ran great legs in both the 4 x 100 (Henry, Shei, Hamill and

scored points. Erinn White just missed scoring in the steeplechase, a new
event at NESCAC's this year.
Nathaniel Mahlberg led the men with his hurdling, as he grabbed a 4th
place in the 400 Hurldes as he raced into a driving sleet storm yet still
managed to run to his fastest time, and he lowered the freshmen record

team of Jay Wagstaff, Janak Chandrasoma, Brian Hart and Matt Monteith grabbed

Morgan capped the wintery day with a 4th place finish on a sleet covered
track. Hart grabbed an 8th place finish in the 400, while Janak grabbed

his time considerably.
Little Three's - April 20
Getting the chance to compete on their home track and in front of millions
of screaming fans, both teams had outstanding days to grab second and hold
off Wesleyan. Despite late afternoon rain that made things a bit chilly
and wet, we got a huge team effort and many outstanding performances and
capped the meet with a victory in the men's 4 x 400 relay as Brian Hart,
Jack Morgan, Nathaniel Mahlberg and Janak Chandrasoma held off a late Williams
charge to win an exciting relay. Janak won the 400, ran a leg of the runner-up
4 x 100 realy with Jay Wagstaff, Hart and Matt Monteith, and came back
to grab 3rd in the 200 before anchoring the relay to victory. Jay Wagstaff

broke the freshman record in the 5k with his 5th place run, and Rusty Ryan
continues to flirt with the 16 minute barrier. Gee Roe and Matt Birmingham

Williams Relays - April 13
With a full complement of individual events and seldom run relay events,
everyone got the chance to be a part of at least one relay in addition
to their chosen events. Jack Morgan's run in the 800 was a highlight for
the men, as he lowered his previous best time nearly 3 seconds to run 1:55.
Nathaniel Mahlberg grabbed his second win of the outdoor season with his
victory in the 400H and was also secoind in the 110H earlier in the day,
and added a leg to the 4 x 400 relay of Brian hart, Janak Chandrasoma and

well in both the 400 and the 200.
Conn College Invite - March 30
Both teams got their seasons started with the 7 team
invite at Connecticut College. With the season just getting under way,
a lot of the team were doubling in multiple events or running races that
were above what they normally do as a strength test, and they fared extremely
well. The women had three event winners on the day as Laurel Kilgour led
an Amherst laden 800m to a 1-2-3 finish with a solid opening season time,

the 1500 and did double duty coming back in the 800. Jamal Aaron had the
fastest time of the day for the team in the 800. Brian Hart returned from
injury to open up well in the 400 and the 200, grabbing points in both
events. Matt Katz and Zeke Phillips worked well with each other through
the 5k and finished strong, as both nearly dipped under 16 minutes.
