Season Depth Charts -Men
& Women
NCAA's - May 25 - 27th
Three women, competing in 5 events amongst them, made the trip to benedictine
for the National Championships. Kim Partee and Heather Wilson got the meet
started with the 10k on Thursday night - Kim put herself in great position
at the midway point, hitting 18:15 for the 5k and running around 10th and
flirted with the 8th spot until the late stages of the race before finishing
10th - in a new PR by 15 seconds. In the same race, Heather went out according
to plan - trying to lay off the early pace and build in the second half
of the race - but did not have her best day on the track and finished
17th. On Friday, Shauneen competed in the steeple in the deepest field
in NCAA history as the three fastest steeplers of all time were all in
the race. She went with eventual winner, Amanda Kuca for the first mile
and then pace got to her and she faded back to the pack but was able to
rally in the last 200 to hold on for 4th place. On Saturday, both Kim and
Shauneen competed in the 5k under very hot conditions. Shauneen led the
first mile on a conservative 5:36, while Kim was in the middle of the pack
that was tightly bunched together. As the pace picked up, Shauneen struggled
a bit while Kim moved up into All-American striking distance. They would
finish 13th and 16th, and with the group all returning next year, they
will certainly look to build on their experiences at NCAA's to capture
All-American accolades at next year's championships. For now, it is a break
before resuming training for XC and looking forward to challenging for
a National Title next fall.
ECAC's - May 18-19th
As has been the case in the past, when final exam week rolls around, the
results of whichever the meet that is at the end of that week really suffer.
Having long hours of studying and writing combined with short amounts of
sleep do not typically equate to conditions conducive to great marks and
certainly was the case this weekend. The effort and desire to compete was
certainly there, but the week took it's toll, as the times showed. The
women finished 19th at the championships, and like she did 2 weeks earlier
at the DIII Championships, Liz Dalton garnered a runner-up spot in the
10k to lead the team with its highest finish. In the same race, Laura Mortimer
finished 8th, earning the final scoring place. Julia Rucker ran her last
individual race in great fashion, as she raced to her fastest 400 time
ever and placed 18th - with Hannah Campbell and Carly Levenson coming in
just behind her. Julia, Hannah, Zandra Walton and Maria Millard raced in
the last event of the day - the 4x400 - and finished 5th overall. Shauneen
Garrahan and Meg Ray finished 7th and 8th in the 1500. Maria finished 10th
in the 400 Hurdles earlier, with Kate Silverman coming in at 20th. Zandra
just missed scoring, as she placed 9th in the 800. Nicole Anderson finished
10th overall in the 5k, as she placed 2nd in the unseeded section, just
off of her seasonal best time. Elise Tropiano finished up her first year
of steepling with a 10th place finish. Three women - Shauneen in the Steeplechase
and 5k, Kim Partee in the 5k & 10k, and Heather Wilson in the 10k will
all head out to the NCAA National Championships this week.
The men were led by senior Dave Schreiner's run in the 5k, as he blew
away the field in the unseeded section while running to an outdoor best
time, and finishing 6th overall - despite the fact that there was a clerical
error and at the time of this writing, he does not show up in the results
(he did run the time of the shown 6th place performer). Peter Foote finished
8th in the steeplechase, to earn the other scoring point for the team while
in the same race, Robert Boley and Rich Wilson each finished 2 spots apart
from each other - Rob in 10th and Rich in 12th. John Babbott and Sam Hayman
battled the guys in the 1500 and 800 respectively, but had a tougher fight
with the lack of sleep from the past 2 nights and did not finish with time
that have been typical of both. They finished off the day, along with Jon
Ettinger and Basile Beaty in the 4x400 with a 14th place finish. With no
one having qualified for the NCAA's, the team will start their break for
the summer before returning to training mode.
Open New England's - May 12 - 13th
Mother nature was not so kind this weekend, though at least the rain somehow
held off on the first day of the meet - where all the trials were run as
finals and the schedule was adjusted significantly on Saturday (the day
where you could have been at a swim meet rather then the track meet we
were running in). Despite the no so wonderful weather that you would have
hoped for at the end of the season championship meets, we still got some
pretty solid performances, and on the first day, several of the sprinters
were able to get marks for ECAC's and extend their season another week.
In the 400, Carly Levenson and Julia Rucker ran neck and neck in their
section, and crossed the line separated be a mere .01 as both ran to new
PR's and just got under the ECAC mark, while Hannah Campbell finished 4
places back in the next section. The next event for us was the 400 Hurdles
where Kate Silverman, like Ruck and Carly, just dipped under the ECAC mark
while setting a new PR with a great home stretch run. IN the next section,
Maria Millard got in on the PR action, and set one of her own as she narrowly
missed breaking 65 seconds but did grab the 8th and final All-New England
scoring spot. IN the 5k, Shauneen Garrahan traded leads with a Williams
runner but ahd to settle for 2nd with an NCAA Automatic qualifying time
under 17 minutes, while Kim Partee raced to a new PR and an 8th place finish
just behind her. Heather Wilson and Katie Moravec finished 18th and 26
in the sam race. On Saturday, with the track converted to a small pond
and a driving rain at times, the women held their own. Zandra Walton ran
her fastest time of the season thus far in the 800 to grab 6th place, while
in the heat before her, Ginger Polich would due the large majority of the
work before settling for 2nd in her heat and 7th overall. Meg Ray had a
strong race in the 1500, as she finished 16th. Elise Tropiano grabbed a
16th as well in the steeplechase despite running on what seemed like a
400 meter extended water pit. The 4x400 of Maria, Zandra, Ginger and Hannah
raced to a 7th place finish with a time of 4:02.3 - very fast, despite
the short rest from the 800 and the awful weather.
The men were led by Sam Hayman's great run in the 800, as he finished
2nd in his section and 11th overall with a very fast tie for the conditions.
IN the earlier section of the 800, Basile Beaty raced very well and finished
23rd over all. On Friday night in the 10k, Harrison Lakehomer and Mike
Harbus wound up finishing within 4 seconds of each other, as they placed
12th and 15th respectively - both just missing breaking 32 minutes. Peter
Foote led the steeplechase trio of himself, Robert Boley and Rich Wilson
to a 16th, 23rd and 26th place finishes in rather horrendous conditions
to be going over barriers. Dave Schreiner ran to his best time of the outdoor
season in the 5k while finishing 19th. The 4x800 relay of Eric Glustrom,
Ben Read, John Babbott and Rom Cabeza got a great lead off leg from Eric
(2:01) and would use that momentum to finish 14th in a very competitive
field. The 4x400 relay of Jon Ettinger, Tim Porter, Basile and Sam got
a great leg from Tim (fastest of the season) and finished 16th overall.
DIII New England's - May 6-7th
For the first time, the men and women competed at the same venue for the
Outdoor DIII NE Championships rather then being at separate sites that
would leave the members and coaches, wondering how things were going at
the other meet. The women grabbed a 6th place finish, while the men finished
in the Top 15 and both teams got some outstanding performances at the meet.
The women's squad got their lone victory in the 4x800 relay, when Meg Ray
ran a great lead off leg to keep us in the hunt before Shauneen Garrahan
would give us a lead that Zandra Walton and Ginger Polich would never relinquish
and, in addition to the win, they broke both the meet record as well as
the school record with their 9:18 run. Liz Dalton had a huge race in the
10k, as she raced the distance for the first time and not only ran a great
time but also grabbed the runner-up spot. Nicole Anderson, Katie Moravec
and Laura Mortimer finished 4,5 and 10 in the race as we grabbed 17 points
in that one event. Kim Partee and Heather Wilson grabbed a 3rd and 5th
place finish in the 5k, while Elise Tropiano finished 12th. Maria Millard
grabbed a 4th place finish in the 400 Hurdles, while in the earlier section,
Kate Silverman won her heat, finished 7th overall and lowered her best
time. Ginger and Zandra did not get off the line well in the 800, and got
boxed in and jostled around and did not work themselves out until the final
stretch but were still able to grab 5th and 8th place points. Shauneen
Garrahan finished 8th in a very fast 1500, while in the early section,
Meg Ray had another great race as she lopped off 7 seconds from her best
time. Hannah Campbell grabbed an 8th place finish in the 400, just missing
breaking 60 seconds, while Carly Levenson ran her best time of the season
and Julia Rucker was just behind her. The three of them, along with Maria
Millard combined to run in the 4x400, and not only grabbed 6th place but
also raced their fastest time of the year. In the 4x100, Kate, Kathryn
Loomis, Julia (filling in for an ill Jenny Mancino) and Hannah grabbed
7th place and just missing running under 50 seconds.
The men were led by a huge breakthrough from first year Peter Foote
in the steeplechase. After having knocked off 20 seconds from his time
from early in the season last week at NESCAC's and needing to run .6 faster
to hit the ECAC Standard, he went out aggressively and then continued moving
up through the field, hurdling incredibly and would finish 3rd over all
- knocking another 20 seconds off his best time to run 9:34, breaking the
freshmen record. In the same race, Rich Wilson finished 10th. Mike Harbus
and Harrison Lakehomer finished 5th and 7th in the 5000, as the pace was
conservative throughout but both kept themselves in great position. IN
the earlier section, Dave Schreiner and Rob Boley finished a couple of
seconds apart. Sam Hayman ran his best outdoor 800 to finish 6th on a loaded
field, while Basile Beaty raced in the early section and was just off his
best time despite nursing a sore hamstring. John Babbott had a great race
in the 1500, as he used a huge finishing kick over the last 150 to win
his section, and would up finishing 7th overall and breaking the 4 minute
barrier for the 1500 for the first time. The 4x400 team of Jon Ettinger,
Rom Cabeza, Tim Porter and Sam won their section and ended up grabbing
the final scoring spot, posting their best time of the outdoor season.
Nick Canevari finished 15th overall in the discus, throwing the platter
131 feet. The 4x100 relay of Geoff Stricsek, Pat Benson, Tim and Steve
Shashy finished their season with a 12th place run, in their best time
of the year.
NESCAC's - April 29th
The teams headed to Bowdoin to take on our conference foes in the NESCAC
Championships and got perfect weather for the meet. The women tied their
best finish ever - 4th place - while the men had to settle for 11th. The
women were led by an impressive double victory by Shauneen Garrahan, as
she captured the steeplechase in a new NESCAC record and NCAA Automatic
time and then came back later in the day to win the 5000 by over a minute
and qualified for NCAA's in that event. Heather Wilson and Kim Partee did
all of the pacing in the 10k, and despite being out kicked over the last
lap by another runner who was content to follow and not help with any of
the work during the first 6 miles, both runners got big PR's and run under
37 minutes to finish 2-3, while Laura Mortimer also lowered her best time
to finish 12th. Maria Millard grabbed a runner-up finish in the 400 Hurdles,
as both her and Kate Silverman (7th place ran to their best times of the
season. With 4th place in the balance, and the team behind Bates by 5.5,
the 4x800 relay of Caitlin Murphy, Meg Ray, Zandra Walton and Ginger Polich
came through with a big runner-up finish while Bates was not able to score
and thus securing the 4th place finish. Earlier in the meet Ginger,
Zandra and Caitlin would finish 3rd, 5th and 11th in the 800, while Meg
grabbed 9th in another PR in the 1500. Hannah Campbell made the finals
in the 100, placing 8th and joined with Kate, Kathryn Loomis and Jenny
Mancino to grab 4th in the 4 x 100 relay, and then with Julia Rucker, Carly
Levenson, and Maria to finish 5th in the 4x 400 relay. Elise Tropiano grabbed
not only a 5th place finish in the steeplechase, but also an NCAA Provisional
mark. In the 5k, Katie Moravec made a strong move in the last 1000 to grab
3rd while Nicole Anderson and Liz Dalton finished 9th and 10th. Jenny
and Maria duplicated the 9 & 10th place finish in the high jump, while
Jenny would also run to her fastest time of the year on the 200. Before
running the opening legs of the 4x400, Julia grabbed the last scoring spot
in the 400 while Carly finished 11th, and then Mariana grabbed 19th. Kathryn
Loomis missed making the finals by one spot in the high hurdles.
The men were led by First year runner Harrison Lakehomer' impressive
10k debut, as he grabbed 4th place and also ran to a new first year record
of 31:40 while Mike Harbus finished 9th in 32:27. Sam Hayman grabbed 6th
place in the 800 with his fastest outdoor time, while Rom Cabeza - sporting
a very new hairdo - finished 14th, and the big breakthrough came for Eric
Glustrom who raced to a new PR of 2:02.04. The steeplechase proved to be
a successful event for the team as Rob Boley grabbed 8th place, knocking
10 seconds off his best time while in the first section, Peter Foote raced
to a 20 second PR and Joe Addison knocked 7 seconds off his best time.
Rich Wilson grabbed 9th place and a new PR in the 5000. Nick Canevari made
the finals in the shot put, throwing over 42 feet and then missed making
the finals in the discus and javelin. The 4x100 relay of Geoff Stricsek,
Pat Benson, Tim Porter and Steve Shashy grabbed the final scoring spot,
while the 4x400 team of Jon Ettinger, Tim, Eric and Ben did not score but
ran some great 400 legs. The DMR team of Sam, Steve Stewart, Rom and John
Babbott finished the day off with a 5th place finish.
Little Three's - April 22nd (Student)
While not having the same weather that we "enjoyed" last year, the day
was still a mix of rain, drizzle and chilly conditions as we took on Wesleyan
and Williams in the annual Little Three Championship held this year at
Wesleyan. Williams, as they have done seemingly forever, swept both titles,
and the women grabbed 2nd while the men settled for 3rd. The ladies were
led by co-captain Ginger Polich's nCAA Provisional mark in winning the
800 (after presenting her thesis that morning) , and then she anchored
the winning 4x400 relay consisting of Maria Millard, Zandra Walton and
Hannah Campbell. Maria, before leading off the relay, grabbed wins in both
the High Jump and in the 400 Hurdles, with Kate Silverman coming in just
behind her to finish 3rd - to go along with her runner-up spot in the high
hurdles. Shauneen Garrahan and Heather Wilson each hit NCAA provisional
marks in the 5k, as they finished 1-2, with Nicole Anderson, Katie Moravec,
Liz Dayton (with a big PR) and Laura Mortimer finished 4,5,6, and 8th.
Zandra grabbed a 3rd in the 1500, as she led Meg Ray and Kim Partee to
a 3-4-5 finish - all with new PR's in the process. Elise Tropiano
made her steeplechases debut a victorious one, as she easily ran away from
the field in that event. Hannah grabbed 3rd and 5th in the 100 and 200
respectively. Julia Rucker raced to her best time of the season in the
400 to grab 4th and in the 800 to place 8th, while also duplicating that
finish in the Triple Jump. Carly Levenson grabbed points in the 400, while
Kathryn Loomis grabbed 3rd in the high hurdles and then a 4th in the 100
shortly after. Jenny Mancino was busy as she grabbed a lot of points in
the field events as she finished 2nd in the HJ and 3rd on both the Long
and Triple Jumps as well as running in the 100 & 200, and on both relays.
Molly Priedeman had a great jump in the long jump to hit qualifying marks
for both NESCAC and DIII NE's. Lauren Benson grabbed valuable points in
the throwing events as she finished 4th in the discus and Hammer, and a
5th in the javelin.
The men were led by the 1-2 finish in the steeplechase, as Rich Wilson
and Robert Boley finished within .05 of each other, to both record PR's
and Joe Addison grabbed 5th with a PR of his own. John Babbott, continued
to make big improvements as he used a big last lap kick to win the 1500,
with Sam Hayman finishing 3rd - both in their best times. Harrison Lakehomer
not only lowered his PR in the 5k to grab 3rd, but also ran to a new freshmen
school record of 15:09, while Mike Harbus grabbed 4th in his first 5k of
the season and Peter Foote broke the 16 barrier easily to finish 9th. Basile
Beaty grabbed 4th in the 800 with a bog PR, and Rom Cabeza finished 7th
with his fastest open 800 at Amherst, and in the 2nd section Ben Read had
the break through he has been looking for as he raced to a 2:02 with a
big finish, as he and Eric Glustrom both raced great to lower their best
times and both would race great later in the 4x400 as they would join with
Pat Benson and Tim Porter to race a great relay and post some fast splits.
Nick Canevari had a busy day in the throwing events as he placed 3rd in
the discus, 4th in the shot, 5th in the javelin and 7th in the Hammer.
the 4x 100 team of Geoff Stricsek, Pat Benson, Tim POrter and Steve Shashy
grabbed a 3rd place finish while Geoff and Pat would each grab points in
the 200. Steve Stewart, competing in the long jump for the first time,
nearly broke 21 feet as he grabbed 4th, and then hurt his ankle in the
Triple jump but still grabbed 4th place. Tim grabbed 5th in the 400 Hurdles,
and also scored in both the long and triple jump, while Steve Shashy earned
point in the 100, Discus and Javelin in addition to his 4x100 duty.
Mid-Week Meet - April 18th
Taking advantage of a decent day of weather, we had a limited event meet
with Trinity and Keene State and it provided an opportunity to run events
that some of the team had not gotten a chance to do, focus a bit on some
speed and gave everyone a chance to run a 4x400 at the end of the day where
they picked their teams and orders. Several wins were turned in by Amherst
competitors, and the men were led by a double victory day for Nick Canevari
as he won the discus with his season's best throw and then, with the meet
all but over and the whole team surrounding the shot put circle he launched
the shot to a nearly 2 foot PR to grab the win on the last throw. John
Babbott turned in his best race of the season in the 1500, as he had a
stirring homestretch battle with a Trinity runner but was able to grab
the victory while behind him, the distance squad turned in some great times
as well as Harrison Lakehomer finished 3rd followed by Mike Harbus, Dave
Schreiner, and then the steeplechase contingent came in right after them.
Basile Beaty grabbed a win in the 400, while both Pat Benson and Geoff
Stricsek raced their best times of the season. In the 400 Hurdles, Peter
Foote and Time Porter finished 1-2 while Sam Hayman grabbed a 2nd in the
800 and was followed by Steve Stewart and Rom Cabeza. In the relays, the
teams mixed things up and it was the team of Steve, Flea, Boley and Rom
that would end up 1st for the team, and 2nd overall.
The women were led by Shauneen Garrahan's NCAA mark in the 1500, as
she led the distance crew to a fast slew of time as Heather Wilson, Elise
Tropiano, Kim Partee and Nicole Anderson swept the 1-5 spots, while Liz
Dayton ran to her best 1500 time. Hannah Campbell had a bid day, as she
doubled up in the 200 and 400 to win both races and leading a big 1-5 sweep
in the 400 as Ginger Polich, Julia Rucker, Mariana Palacios and Molly Priedeman
came in hot on her heels, and then a 1-3 sweep in the 200 (Jenny Mancino
and Carly Levenson). Zandra Walton ran a strong 800, while Meg Ray came
in behind her in her fastest time as she continues to rack up PR's. Maria
Millard and Kate Silverman went 1-2 in the 400 Hurdles, and Kate would
finish just behind Kat Loomis as those 2 finished 1-2 in the 100 Hurdles.
Jenny Mancino cleared 5'1 in the high jump, as well as jumping over 16
feet in the long jump. The 4x400 team of Hannah, Carly, Julia and Maria
grabbed the win as they led an Amherst 1-5 sweep.
UMass Lowell Invite - April 15th
(Student)
On what could end up being the warmest day of the whole season (though
there was a pretty good wind) the teams competed against 10 other
schools at the UMass Lowell Invite, in a non scoring invitational. Shauneen
Garrahan grabbed the day's lone victory for the women, as she raced to
an easy, non challenged win in the 5000. In the same event, Elise Tropiano
finished 3rd. Ginger Polich and Zandra Walton finished 3-4 (.03 seconds
apart) in the 800 as Zandra led the race until the waning meters. The two
would join with Maria Millard and Hannah Campbell to run a third place
effort in the 4x400 relay. Maria, before leading off the relay finished
7th in the 400, while Hannah finished top 10 in the 100 and 200 before
blistering her leg of the relay. Heather Wilson finished 6th in the 3k,
while Meg Ray finished 8th with a new PR and then came back and ran a great
800 a little while late. The 4x100 relay of Kate Silverman, Kathryn Loomis,
Jenny Mancino and Hannah grabbed a 4th place finish - and to warm up for
the relay, Jenny finished 7th in the long jump. Kate took a weekend
off from hurdling to concentrate on the flat races, and posted great results
in the 200, 400 and in the B 4x400. Mariana Palacios nearly broke 65 for
the 400 in both her open race and her relay leg, and will look to drop
that in the next meet.
The men were led by the throwing (and relay 400 leg) of Nick Canevari
as he placed 6th in the discus, 7th in the shot put and then just missed
making the finals of the javelin with his 10th place finish. Steve Shashy
had a big PR in the javelin. Mike Harbus, returning to racing, grabbed
a 7th place finish in the seldom run 2 Mile event, with Harrison Lakehomer
hot on his heels in 8th. Peter Foote grabbed a 7th place finish in the
steeplechase - in slightly better conditions then his debut form the week
before, while Joe Addison made his first foray into the event and placed
10th. Sam Hayman grabbed 9th in the 400. Eric Glustrom had the best day
for the team as he lowered his PR quite a bit in the 800, as he raced extremely
tough and was rewarded for his effort sixth a solid time, and then had
a strong relay leg to end the day in the 4x400. The team of Basile Beaty,
Tim POrter, Rom Cabeza and John Babbott grabbed 7th in the 4x400, while
the 4x100 relay of Geoff Stricsek, Pat Benson, Tim and Steve grabbed an
8th place finish. Basile and John finished 10th (just below 2:00) and 16th
(just above 2:00 despite leading the race for the first 600) in the 800.
Williams Relays - April 8th (The
Student)
At least it did not snow or rain, but the cold, raw and windy day put a
bit of a damper on things - especially for those who braved the water pit
in the steeplechase and took quite a while to get their feet warm afterwards!
It is New England, so you have to deal with whatever mother nature throws
at you, which is what we did on Saturday. Despite the name of the meet,
there was a full slate of normal events to go along with a slew of seldom
run relays. The men were led by Harrison Lakehomer's victory in the 5000
as he ran an evenly paced race, and started to pull away in the last 3
laps to grab a win in his first foray at the distance. The Sprint Medley
Relay of Jon Ettinger, Tim Porter, Basile Beaty and Sam Hayman were victorious,
as they led an Amherst 1-2 sweep to close out the day's running events
for the team. Basile in the 400, and Sam in the 800, both earned runner-up
finishes in their respective events before teaming for a win in the relay.
Rob Boley led Rich Wilson and Peter Foote to a very cold 2,3,5 finish in
the steeplechase. John Babbott led the 1500 for the entirety of the race
until the last homestretch when he was passed, but held on strong to finish
2nd. Nick Canevari grabbed an 8th place finish in the discus and qualified
for DIII New England's with the throw, while newcomer Brian Lewis had the
best throw for the team in the javelin.
The women were paced by Shauneen Garrahan's victory in the steeplechase,
as she ran by herself to win by well over a minute. Maria Millard nearly
grabbed both the win and breaking 66 seconds in the 400 Hurdles with a
strong last stretch drive but settled for a very close second, while Kate
Silverman grabbed 5th in the same race. Co-captains Julia Rucker and Ginger
Polich had a thrilling battle in the 400 as they were separated by less
then .1 as they finished 2,3 and Carly Levenson and Mariana Palacios finishing
in 5th and 11th. Zandra Walton grabbed a pair of third place finishes in
both the 1500 and 800 races, while in the 1500 Elise Tropiano, Meg Ray
and Liz Dayton all raced strong to record fast times. In the Sprint Medley
Relay, Amherst teams finished 2,3 and 5 with Hannah Campbell, Julia, Caitlin
Murphy and Ginger bringing the baton around the fastest of the three teams.
IN the days first events, Maria and Jenny Mancino tied for 7th in the high
jump and 4-10, while the quartet of Kim Partee, Heather Wilson, Nicole
Anderson and Laura Mortimer finished 4, 6,7 and 11th in the 5000.
Bantam Invitational - April 1st
(The
Student)
The teams got the outdoor season started at Trinity, in the Bantam Invite.
Despite a drenching rain hitting at the precise time of the 400 Hurdles,
and causing a 45 minute delay and everyone scrambling for any form of shelter,
the weather for April 1st was great, and the team looked good as they kicked
things off. The women got the day rolling with a 1-5 sweep of the 10k,
in a tempo effort that saw Kim Partee, Heather Wilson, Nicole Anderson,
Katie Moravec and Laura Mortimer sharing pacing duties for the entirety
of the race. Another tempo effort race with a lot of purple in the front
was the 5k, as Shauneen Garrahan helped pace Zandra Walton, Elise Tropiano,
Meg Ray and Liz Dayton through 6:00 pace through the first 10 laps, as
Zandra and Meg would both run to their fast times despite their focus being
on the middle distance events. The 400 saw some great results as Carly
Levenson won her section, placing 5th overall, and Julia Rucker easily
won her section to place 7th, with Hannah Campbell grabbing 9th - all opening
with great marks. Ginger Polich grabbed a 3rd place finish in the 800,
after grabbing 7th in the 1500, as Caitlin Murphy and Lauren Benson both
did the same double, placing 8th in both for Murph and Lauren winning her
section of the 1500. Maria Millard and Kate Silverman, both ready to race
the 400 Hurdles as the rain and ensuing delay struck, finished 3-4 in that
race despite the delay and lakes on the track. Maria also finished 7th
in the high jump to start the day. Hannah finished 5th in the 200, with
Jenny Mancino coming in 6th, and then Carly and Julia finishing 9th and
11th out f their heats, and Kathryn Loomis and Molly Priedeman finishing
in the Top 20. Due to the rain, and soaking of spikes and clothing, we
opted not to compete in the day's ending 4x400 relay.
The men's top finisher was Dave Schreiner, who ran his first 10k, and
despite using it as a tempo effort workout, was able to finish 2nd, just
missing breaking 34 minutes. Rob Boley led a 4-6-7 finish - John Babbott
and Rich Wilson - in the 5k, as he made a strong move late in the race
to run to a new PR in the opening race of the season. Jon Ettinger returned
to track after a semester abroad and bypassing the indoor season, and looked
as though he had not missed a step as he finished 12th in the 400, with
a strong close to win his heat at the line, and then came back with an
8th place in the 200. Sam Hayman finished 7th in the 800, after running
the 1500 and finishing 15th in a PR. Steve Stewart did the majority of
the pacing in his section of the 800, but still nearly broke 2 minutes
after running the 1500 shortly beforehand. Tim Porter grabbed 9th in the
400 Hurdles, as his race was in process as the clouds erupted. Nick Canevari
grabbed 7th in the discus, and also started the day with a 10th place finish
in the javelin, and Brian Lewis grabbed 14th in that same event in his
first track meet ever. As with the women, due to the weather, we opted
to not run relays but look forward to making up for that when we compete
at the William's Relays next weekend
