Meet Recap
Three women made the trip to the historic Penn Relays to compete in the distance event portion of the Relay meet on Thursday. Shauneen Garrahan, already with an NCAA Auto qualifying mark in the Steeplechase was looking to improve upon her time, and post a time that would qualify for the USATF Nationals. Running in a combined Olympic Development and Collegiate Championship section, she more then held her own as she finished 3rd overall, and as the collegiate runner-up, and knocked over 7 seconds off of her best time, running 10:17 - well under the B Standard for the USATF National Championships to be held in Indianapolis in June. Elise Tropiano was running in the Olympic Development section of the 5000, which had some runners who were in college but the majority were those who were running for clubs. While starting out a little tentatively, she used a strong last mile to finish with a new PR, and hit a very solid provisional qualifier for nationals - just missing the automatic standard. heather Wilson finished the night off, running in the 10000, which like it was for Shauneen - a combination of the Collegiate Championships and the Olympic Development races. She hit the halfway mark in 17:58 and then started to move up from there and had a big negative split, as she closed in 17:43 for the last 5k to hit an automatic qualifier of 35:41 and a PR by over a minute.
