Campus Grounds

Creating a Sustainable Landscape

Amherst has one of the most beautiful college campuses in the country. However, achieving this beauty in a sustainable and environmentally friendly fashion can be challenging. We strive to create a healthy, regenerative landscape that minimizes the use of toxic chemicals, protects wildlife habitat, and conserves resources.

What’s Next

  • Further reducing pesticide and fertilizer use, particularly across the turf areas of campus.
  • Maintaining our Tree Campus USA status which recognizes college campuses for their commitments to their campus trees.
  • Applying to be classified as a Morton Level 1 Certified arboretum.
  • Increasing the amount of “wild and naturally landscaped” spaces across campus.
