Kelley Millet '82
When Kelley Millet ’82 thinks back on his years at Amherst, he remembers playing bass guitar in the Lord Geoffs (“We opened for someone who opened for Aerosmith,” he says); beating Williams in football to win the Little Three title (in 1981, when he was one of three team captains); and “solving the world’s problems” over food with friends in Fayerweather Hall. Kelley was an economics major at Amherst. In addition to playing football, he was on the wrestling and rugby teams.
Kelley went on to work as managing director and global head of capital markets and syndicate at JP Morgan. In 2001 he became senior managing director and co-head of credit trading at Bear, Stearns & Co. Last year he became president and board member of MarketAxess Corp., a leading electronic bond trading platform.
He has two children—Sarah, a student at the Savannah (Ga.) College of Art and Design, and Chris, who is in high school at The Forman School in Litchfield, Conn. In July, Kelley married Erika Stuht, who is from Mansfield, Ohio. Kelley, who enjoys music and traveling and is a passionate collector of American art, is on the board of Grace Outreach, a nonprofit that serves the educational needs of women in Bronx, N.Y.
A tireless supporter of Amherst, Kelley created the Jane N. and John M. Millet Scholarship Fund in his parents’ name, and he named an art studio in Fayerweather in honor of his children. As lead-gifts co-chair for his 25th reunion, he helped raise approximately $3.5 million for the college.
Thoughts on giving to Amherst: “Amherst gave me a window into a world that I didn’t know existed—and the tools to succeed in that world. I came to Amherst as a public high school graduate on full financial aid, with no spending money in my pockets. I understand the struggles that students face as they try to balance academics, athletics and the cost of a fantastic education. I also love and support the arts. This is why I have made Amherst my philanthropic focus.”
