Dear Amherst Community:

With the advice and input of more than 400 students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, and friends of the College, the presidential search committee has crafted a position profile that lays out the challenges and opportunities ahead for our next president, as well as the qualities, expertise, and values we seek in candidates. That so many committed time and energy to this important work is testimony to the strength of our community. On behalf of the search committee, we thank you for your help.

The committee’s focus now shifts to identifying, recruiting, and vetting promising candidates. Please continue to share nominations and ideas with the search committee through the confidential email address.

Update About Presidential Search Committee: from Andrew J. Nussbaum ’85

October 4, 2021

Dear Members of the Amherst College Community:

I write with an update on the search we will undertake to select the 20th president of Amherst College.

A Presidential Search Committee of 16 members has been formed, including two students, two members of the College staff, three faculty, one from the alumni and eight trustees. While the committee, by necessity, is small compared to the depth and breadth of our community, we will spend substantial time seeking input from all constituencies on the important values, vision, accomplishments and character of our next president. I look forward to frequent conversations and opportunities for listening to our faculty, staff, students and alumni.
