onsistent with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s objective of promoting excellence and diversity, and with the assistance of faculty and staff, the Office of Academic Engagement and Student Success (AESS) seeks to assist Amherst students from diverse backgrounds to effectively use the College’s wide range of academic resources. AESS is specifically committed to enhancing students’ opportunities for graduate studies and professional development after graduating from the College.

GOALS

  • Nurture an inclusive and supportive community of scholars dedicated to academic excellence and service.
  • Provide students from diverse backgrounds with sustained institutional support and advice that will enhance their qualifications for admission to and success in graduate and professional schools.
  • Cultivate and mobilize alumni mentors and external stakeholder networks to further support and enhance students’ success in applying for graduate and professional schools.

In addition to connecting students to multiple sources of academic support on campus, AESS administers the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship and Wade Student Ambassador Program, and supports the Wade Fellowship.

AESS staff also connect Amherst students to relevant external Academic Conferences and Opportunities that provide research opportunities and creative activities that will enhance their educational experience on campus.
