Meet Our Scholars
Jade DuVal
Major(s): English and French
Hometown: Cleveland, OH
Advisor & Department: C. Rhonda Cobham-Sander, Black Studies
Research Interest: My research aims to look into how African American girls identities are represented. To do this I will be comparing how black girlhood is defined in The Bluest Eye and Salvage the Bones with the standard that American society expects black girls to uphold for social acceptance.
Fun fact: When I was younger I used to collect hotel cards and kept them organized in a card holder that I still have.

Fun fact: I’m always practicing/learning new things for fun! Last summer I learned to solve a rubik’s cube, the year
before that I played the drums, and this year I’ve been trying new recipes!
