Wei Sun Christianson ’85 was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2010. She was the first student from mainland China admitted to Amherst, and she is currently managing director and China CEO of Morgan Stanley, where she is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s China business.

Christianson graduated from Amherst cum laude with a degree in political science and went on to earn a J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1989. She practiced law in New York, specializing in U.S. securities transactions, before relocating to Hong Kong in the early 1990s to become associate director of the corporate finance department at Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. She was a member of Morgan Stanley's Management Committee from 1998 to 2002, then was managing director and chairman of China for Citigroup Global Markets until 2005, after which she returned to Morgan Stanley.

In 2009, Fortune magazine named Christianson one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business. The Wall Street Journal named her one of 50 Women to Watch in 2006, 2007 and 2008. She is co-chair of the International Advisory Board of Columbia Law School.
