Andrew J. Nussbaum ’85


The alumni body elected Andrew J. Nussbaum ’85 to a six-year term on the Board of Trustees, starting in 2010. He is a partner in the law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he specializes in mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions and corporate governance.

Nussbaum was a Russian major at Amherst and a summa cum laude graduate. He earned a master’s degree from Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, and later a law degree from the University of Chicago. He was a law clerk to Ruth Bader Ginsburg from 1991 to 1992, while she was on the U.S. Court of Appeals, and to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia from 1992 to 1993. 

Nussbaum is board chairman of the nonprofit Asphalt Green, which offers sports, fitness and wellness activities for  thousands of New York City children and adults. He lives in Manhattan with his wife, Darcy Miller Nussbaum, and their three daughters.
