Byong-Kuk Kim

December 29, 2005

Dear '51 Classmate & Friend,

I send you my best wishes for good health and much happiness in 2006. However, with regret I also inform you of the death of another classmate. The College was notified only recently that Byong-Kuk Kim died almost a year ago --on January 19, 2005.

After earning his doctorate in economics at the University of Wisconsin, Byong returned to his native Korea, where he had a distinguished career in the banking and securities industries. He concluded his life work by serving as president of the Seoul Institute of International Economics. He also was the author of many books and articles on topics in his field of endeavor.
Byong is survived by his wife of 58 years, Yon-Bok, whose address is 13313 Sunny Brooke Place, Potomac, MD 20854. His son, Yang K. Kim, graduated from Amherst in the Class of 1983.

Our condolences to them and to the other members of his family. An In Memory article for Byong will be written by Will Weeks, and will appear in an upcoming issue of Amherst magazine.

Sincerely,
David Fulton
