Amherst Magazine

Ways to memorialize or honor an individual at Amherst include:

  • Building an interactive In Memory page. These pages offer a place where the Amherst community can remember friends and classmates with unlimited space for words, stories, videos, memories, and photos. As a complement to the traditional In Memory pieces printed in the Amherst Magazine, this site offers the opportunity to bring to life and preserve the memories we have.
  • Making a memorial or honorary gift to the Annual Fund. These gifts count in class totals and are the most common way to honor individuals. All memorial gifts are acknowledged to the donor as well as the family; those honored are notified of tributes as well. Of course, gift amounts are not communicated to the family or the honoree. To make a memorial or honorary gift, simply indicate in the Comments section of the online giving page or your check that the gift is memorial or honorary and the name/class year of the honoree.
  • Giving to a particular program or activity on campus. Gifts may be made to benefit specific programs, although they do not "count" for Annual Fund credit since they are by definition restricted rather than unrestricted gifts. These gifts may be made in any amount. Leadership Giving
  • Establishing a named endowment fund with a minimum gift of $200,000. For further information about this option, please contact Gretchen Dwyer, Director of Leadership Giving, at 413-542-2548 or
The Melissa Ketunuti Basselier 1999 Memorial Scholarship, is one example of directed memorial giving.
